Throughout much of the 19th century there was a "school" or "movement" or style of painting among landscape artists living and working near the Hudson River.  the paintings were rather bucolic and colorful in earth tones, and frequently (this is what I borrowed) included a small bit of red in the composition.  the red in these photos is from emergency ladders used to help rescue people who fall through the ice.
