Want to get the M10 but being held back by negative quality control stories

I want to get the M10 with either the 50/f2 or the 35/f2.

Currently leaning towards the 35mm because it seems easier to focus (either zone or with RF). I'm new to the RF way of things. But I really do like the bokeh on the 50mm.

However, I dont want my first lens to be difficult/frustrating to use such that I give up on RF.

Even though I want to get the camera, there's been multiple stories, on this forum and others, about quality control issues. Just looking at the topics on this forum shows quite a few:

- frame lines missing

- frame line selector dropping off

- battery info incorrect

- stuck on ISO 400

- shutter release not working

Is the quality control on the M10 that bad? Given the price tag and the branding, I wouldn't expect Leica not to have good quality control. Seems like a big risk to take buying the M10

- spending that money

- or if the issues are fixable; having to send it back to the shop/factory/customer service => waste of time

Any thoughts or comments from M10 users.

Mine never had problem, since february 2017 untill now.

My thought :

- in manufacturing, there is never "zero default to all the production" (maybe in Swiss Watch/Clock de Luxe Manufacturing costing many 100k USD or more to 1M for sure * )

- warranty is there to "correct default" if need be

- people (M10 users here) happy with M10 would never complain "my M10 works 100%"

...

* this timepiece is my alltime favorite : https://www.forbes.com/sites/elizabethdoerr/2017/05/15/patek-philippes-most-complicated-watch-caliber-89-fails-to-sell-for-second-time-at-auction/#af2d2821933e

Another M10 with no problems. I have seen some join the Forum to post a problem so need to keep it all in perspective. I suspect only a small percentage  of total M10 owners are members here so it is a small sample either way. If you want it go for it.

(Does this thread want merging with the other you started?)

It is the nature of forums that you mostly hear about the failures of gear, not the successes! I see the same thing regularly on motorcycle and car forums.

My M10 has operated flawlessly apart from some initial problems with SD cards that were solved by a subsequent firmware update.
I'd highly recommend the 35mm Summicron, it's such a versatile lens.

Far less forum chatter about M240 and M10 problems than prior digital Ms.

I haven’t experienced any problems with 2 M8.2s, an M240 or the M10.

Buy from a reputable dealer with warranty. And carry insurance for situations the warranty doesn’t cover including loss, theft or damage.

Be happy and shoot.

I have had zero issues with my M10 since its purchase in October. Also had zero problems with my M9-P and MM, both of which I have had since new.

A good friend of mine who purchased an M10 from me back in August had the ISO 400 lock issue and his frame selector has fallen off twice. Another friend has also had his frame selector lever fall off. I think proper application of LocTite Blue should work for this. Leica seems to have solved the ISO dial freeze problem.

Three Leicas in the past three years. Used M240, no defects. M10, no defects. Q, no defects.  Like any device, one can get unlucky, but the internet tends to amplify the notion of defects to a level where one might think that the odds are far higher than than they really are.  My personal solution to fear of failure has been to develop a good relationship with the local Leica Store. If I do ultimately have an issue, I'm sure they'll do their best to expedite things.

Don't stress, they are very robust. With minimal but sensible preventative caution I have hiked, skied, put it in the boot of my rally car and driven a tarmac rally, taken it to concerts and travelled three continents with my M10 and the only service it's received is a professional sensor clean about 6 months ago. It still focuses perfectly with all my lenses.

There are plenty of threads with similar stories of robust use and no issues.

Poke through the image threads instead of the occasional trouble shooting thread and buy with confidence! As mentioned above, if you're worried buy from a dealer and if worst comes to worse you'll have support. When my M240 RF went out of alignment Leica Australia was good enough to loan me a 246 while it was being calibrated.
