M10 Support in Canada

Hey guys,

I’m from Halifax, Nova Scotia. We have no local Leica dealer so I always need to buy remotely unfortunately.

I recently bought an M10 black from a shop in Montreal (camtec photo) which I’ve used before, and when something goes wrong with my cameras I would normally mail it back to the shop and they would deal with sending it to Leica etc.

I want to buy a silver M10 now but camtec does not have stock. If I buy from bh photo or somewhere else like that, am I still covered for warranty purposes? Can I deal with Leica NJ directly from Canada? I’m sure you all know that Canada does not have its own Leica repair facility so we need to use Leica USA for that. But I’m a little confused on the details.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

For anyone who is interested, I called Leica NJ today and they said they service Canada and it would be no problem at all for a Canadian to buy from bh photo and get warranty service directly from Leica USA just as we would if we buy from Canadian retailers.

Cheers,

Andrew

Hey, I'm from BC. Have also heard good things about the Leica shop in Montreal. I purchased all my "new" gear from downtown camera (Toronto). Thanks for the info because I was also wondering about servicing my camera & lenses (new and some legacy M glass)

I few years back I had the need to ship to NJ from Toronto and discovered if you ship via FedEx or similar to the US from Canada the insurance cost on your declared value can be quite high when you ship as an individual.  If you declare the value of the M10 at its new cost the insurance approaches $300.  If Leica ask for you to ship lenses with the camera the cost gets proportionally higher.  I did not explored very deeply ways to avoid the cost such as home insurance instead I just opted to go though a local Leica camera shop which saved me that cost.  The one I used is closed now but I expect Downtown Camera and Camtec would save you that cost as well.  I also got the feeling their shipping rates are better than I could get as an individual.
