Corrupt images

Hi there,

I don’t think this is an issue with my Leica M, but given its new to me, I thought I would post incase anyone has seen such an issue that did turn out to be camera related...

On importing images to Lightroom from the sd card (compressed dng) I’ll see a couple of corrupt images (previews - from embedded preview image) in the library module. If I flip to the developer module, the raw file is perfectly fine. If I regenerate the preview, the corruption goes away. One would think it points to the camera saving a corrupt preview images with the dng, which is resolved on a preview regeneration in Lightroom.

The weird thing is if I do the same import to another computer... no corrupt previews. So that would point to an issue with the computer, but I only see this from the Leica shot images. 2 imports of a couple of hundred images each time usually results in 1- 2 corrupted images as described above. One thing worth noting is that I’m pretty sure the corrupt images where shot in continuous mode and shot at the point of a full buffer.

Very weird and easily remedied by generating the previews.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers

Jonathan

Ok, so this happened to me again today. The image was ok in the library preview, but corrupt in the develop module, regenerating the preview image resulted in it then to being corrupt.

So I installed Affinity Photo to see if it could read the same file... it could, without issue. I then tried via CameraRaw, it also had no issues. I uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom, it was then ok with the file. At the minute I don't think this is a camera issue.

Yep. As mentioned above. After reinstalling Adobe Lightroom the image was uncorrupted, so I think it was a Lightroom issue. Very odd though as it only affected 1/100 images, I had also set the camera to save dng+jog. The jpg was never corrupted

Hi Jonathan.

Will the same issue occur if you copy the files from the SD card onto the computer, and then us LR to access the files on the computer's hard disk ?

  • 3 weeks later...

This being the only similar topic I can find I thought I would try here and see if anyone has the same problem with Lightroom import as me!   I shoot my M240 in DNG only but on import to Lightroom it's rendering a small percentage of the frames skewed.  Auto correct does not..... I have to crop and straighten, losing some of the frame.  This has only just begun to happen and is very confusing as at first I thought it might also be a corrupt card.  Anyone have anything that may help me here?

That was me, and it worked for a while, then the issue came back (maybe 3 images out of a 1000). However, I found if I just copied the images off of the card using the OS X finder, they were fine, so in my case it’s definatetly not the camera, it’s lightroom. And wonky images are for sure down to my wonky eyes
