Fresh battery and same SD card ?

The M9 supply regulation always seemed on the edge.

Even Apple admitted to throttling phones with older batteries that could not hold output voltage at current peaks.

I think, the only issue here is looking at images with wrong exposure.

The M9 supply regulation always seemed on the edge.

Even Apple admitted to throttling phones with older batteries that could not hold output voltage at current peaks.

In fact it was a brand new SD card bought the same day I picked up the camera from the Leica store.  I have so many test shots by now that we can safely rule out battery status as well.

I was just hoping that someone else would have checked her/his sensor and compared with the old sensor images.

according to that logic there should be even less sensor lines

New does not necessarily mean better or equivalent:

I stick to older, slower, small capacity SD cards as the seemed to be less likely to produce.banding than the latest ultra fast cards.

When you underexpose a CCD sensor you may get banding; that is normal.The amount of banding depends on the amount of underexposure.  These shots are taken at different times, thus under different light so they tell us exactly nothing.

The only difference between the old and the new type of sensor is the cover glass, so it is highly unlikely that there is any change in noise behaviour between the two.

shooting multiple Leica M8 since 2006 I went through all kinds of SD episodes (so yes when it matters and I do not want to deal with lost images I resort to 2GB SD cards )

which exact make do you use ? ( please attach image of card )

From personal experience I can say that it does no harm

taking a few test shots before sending your camera in.

 

Color Checker

Auto Exposure

Bracket 0.-1,-3

ISO160

Tungsten Light

AWB

 

I have seen my camera for a total of 3 days since having it sent to NJ through the Leica Store in June 2017

in fact the camera is still in NJ as we speak ...

 .... and I have a feeling that this is still not the end of it.

I have not noticed any radical difference in underexposed areas between the two generations of sensors. I have been using the same SD card. 

My personal experience is that increased banding in M9 images has always been an issue with the SD card rather than the camera.

Further, here is an image shot with the M9's new-gen sensor. 

 

underexposed at ISO 640, and pushed to around an equivalent ISO of 12800.

 

The banding is not nearly as obvious as what I've seen the old-gen sensor produced at a mere 2-stop push when paired with a 32GB 94mb/sec SD card or a 1st-gen Toshiba WIFI SD card.

      I’m new to photography, I’m trying to decide between the M10P and the Monochrom M246. I’ve read all the forums about the pros and cons of each choice. I shoit primarily in b&w but I like at least having the option of shooting color. With the M10P, I’ve heard about “Monochrom Mode” when shooting in this mode will the images show up as a black & white preview on the LCD Screen?
      is it really that big of a difference/ time consuming effort to convert each and every M10P color photo to blk & white? As opposed to little PP Time with the Monochrom M246?

      Hi everybody,
      I’m a computer science engineer who has been working, as a hobby, the last three years in a new, more precise, way of recreating film look with digital cameras.
      I’m posting here for feedback, in case anybody of you would like to test the application (with the M9) and show the results and your opinions.
      I usually shoot film photography but also I like the comfort of digital. The problem is that I’ve never been happy with existing film emulations. Mainly because of that, because they are emulations instead of simulations.

      METHOD USED
      For doing so, instead of doing a generic conversion for every camera, I’ve done a specialised conversion for the Leica M9 based on simulating the chemical process and spectrum response, instead of applying curves and other stuff.
      In the end, I thought, if analog and digital are just two instruments which capture light, I thought, maybe is there any mathematical conversion to make the digital to look like film?
      I mean, if I take the same photo with analog and digital, under exact same conditions (light / aperture / exposition /…) could I make them look exactly the same?
      It’s based on chemical simulation and the Leica M9’s response to spectrum. Then LUTs and finally some extra calibration. I think that it could be improved because I’ve used home made or open source tools for calibrating and so on, which are far from perfect.
      EXAMPLES (Analog vs Converted Digital)
      Following are some examples of Superia 200 and TriX 400.
      Click in each photo to see high resolution.
      DNGs shoots taken with Leica M9 (left), and FILM shoots taken with Minolta CLE (right) at same conditions (aperture / exposition / ISO).
      All shoots taken with Zeiss Biogon T* ZM 35mm f/2.
      The examples show several photos, which are the following:

      CONCLUSIONS
      Tonal range - Biggest difference between digital and film
      Dynamic range - Digital is faaar more detailed in the blacks, film never gets burnt, meanwhile digital gets burn quite fast.
      Film has more microcontrast, it's more sharpen
      Digital is a little bit more contrast after developing, I imagine it’s because it reach white level faster, then, when doing autolevels with the developing program, as a result, it’s a more contrast image.

      I'm having a console application ready, if interest is shown it will be ready quite soon!
      CAVEHEATS / LIMITATIONS
      The program only accept DNG, because I need all the light captured by the camera, instead of a JPG already converted and really dependent on camera self made adjustments.
      The program only accepts photos taken at the ISO of the certain film that is gonna be used. For example, for TriX400 it will accept only Leica M9 DNGs at 400 ISO. I’ve also done tests with ISO 200 and 800, and the results were quite satisfactory but, for complexity reasons, I prefer to let it be native film ISO for the moment.
      Highlights are not always correct, and sometimes they look weird, mainly in color film. This is due to bayer sensor pattern and its different intensity response (for Red, Green and Blue channels).

      Hi,
      I have had a M6 (serial number is in the 1665000 range) for about 7 years now and to be honest, haven't used it a lot in the last few years, but fired it up again recently and noticed that I think the light meter is functioning odd. In the past, I could press the shutter button when the film wasn't wound on and the light meter would activate, briefly, and then I could set the exposure. Now it doesn't do that, but when I wind film on, it will activate the light meter and not turn off until a photo is taken.
      I ran a roll of film through and it works fine - i.e the exposures were fine - it just seems to activate differently that it used to. Is this a common thing anyone knows about?
      I live in Melbourne, Australia and it's tough to get a repairer here who will look at an M6.  Any advice would be REALLY helpful.
