F.Juul Posted December 15, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 15, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey Guys I'm no pro when it comes to optimizing pixels to 500 kb, which is required to post a picture in this forum. But I have been kept away from posting pictures in this forum because 500kb is below the limit where things look good. In these days I think we should get beyond floppy disc size restrictions - in other words: is it possible to extend bite requirements a bite? 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Advertisement Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Hi F.Juul, Take a look here 500kb -> 2017. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted December 16, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 16, 2017 Premium members can post up to 1MB per post (1 x 1MB, or 2 x 500 kB, or 5 x 200 kB etc). Pete. 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
jaapv Posted December 16, 2017 Share #3 Posted December 16, 2017 So what is the problem? This image is at 1000 KB approx., the following post at 230 KB approx. Never mind the (lack of) artistic merit. Welcome, dear visitor! jmahto Posted December 16, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 16, 2017 . posting twice multiplies the artistic merit too. Nice pic, BTW. 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
mikemgb Posted December 16, 2017 Share #6 Posted December 16, 2017 There is a definite difference between those two images, the larger one has much smoother transitions between light and dark and just looks less harsh, however, I find that an image of around 460kb is very hard to distinguish from one of 1000kb. I am a premium member but very few of the images I post are above 500kb, the extra size simply doesn't have a significant advantage. Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
jaapv Posted December 16, 2017 Share #7 Posted December 16, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Right. I expressly made it just over 200. I could have made it smoother, but that would have lost some structure As it is I agree that 500 KB is usually enough, except for Monochrom1 images. An increase in pixel number to about 1750 @ 1000 KB would be more useful for modern large hi-res monitors. 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
jmahto Posted December 16, 2017 Share #8 Posted December 16, 2017 Do we know what percentage of users browse the forum on mobile devices? Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
jaapv Posted December 16, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 16, 2017 Just for sake of the argument, @ 150 kB. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! And at 78 kB on the disk...Now it is really starting to break up, but this is the smallest size possible in PS (the forum interpolates it to larger) Quote Link to post Share on other sites Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! jaapv Posted December 16, 2017 Share #10 Posted December 16, 2017 And, to get back to the OP, just under 500 kB, compression 10 (one of the three "maximum" rates) Welcome, dear visitor! LocalHero1953 Posted December 16, 2017 Share #11 Posted December 16, 2017 Do we know what percentage of users browse the forum on mobile devices? I use a phone, a tablet and a PC with large monitor. The phone is usually when I'm stuck in a bank queue, or on a train. Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Peter H Posted December 16, 2017 Share #12 Posted December 16, 2017 I use a phone, a tablet and a PC with large monitor. The phone is usually when I'm stuck in a bank queue, or on a train. While you're queueing at the bank, couldn't you use your phone to do your banking? 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

jaapv Posted December 16, 2017 Share #14 Posted December 16, 2017 Well, if it comes to that, banks don't accept cash any more either nowadays. You have to feed it into some machine... Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

jaapv Posted December 16, 2017 Share #17 Posted December 16, 2017 Some years ago I was gobsmacked when being told at the counter: "Sorry Sir, we are a moneyless bank now" My first thought was: Not much use having them handle my money matters in that case... stunsworth Posted December 16, 2017 Share #20 Posted December 16, 2017 To return to the original question, one method is to upload the photo to Flickr and then use the sharing options there to post a link to the photo in your message on this site. The photo will then appear here and not be subject to the size restrictions. Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
