stuny Posted December 15, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 15, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) At about 5:45 this morning, -16 degrees Celsius. Most of the year this is parkland with grass, seating, restaurants, games and so on. But in mid-autumn they install a skating rink and a temporary restaurant, and by mid-November erect a holiday shopping village. In the third photo you see their Christmas tree through the roof of the temporary restaurant. Welcome, dear visitor! IkarusJohn Posted December 16, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 16, 2017 Thanks Stuart. I haven’t seen Bryant Park in the winter, but it’s one of my favourite places in one of my favourite cities; for what it is, and what it was.

Michael Geschlecht Posted December 20, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 20, 2017 Hello Stuart, Nice photos all. Bryant Park is decorated a little differently than it was when I went to graduate school across the street. By the way, are you sure that it was -16 Celsius on the 15th of December 2017?If my math is reasonably close, -16 Celsius is pretty much +3 Fahrenheit. stuny Posted December 20, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted December 20, 2017 Mike - Thank you. Michael - Thank you. No I'm not certain. I can do the conversions in my head either way as long as both C & F are positive. I'm not so sure when subtracting the 32 from the F produces a minus figure for me to multiply by 5/9. Michael Geschlecht Posted December 20, 2017 Share #11 Posted December 20, 2017 (edited) Hello Stuart, 40 C = 104 F Notice: 40 & 04 30 C = 86 F Notice that 86 is 68 Backwards 20 C = 68 F 10 C = 50 F Notice that they both have 0 Now it gets tricky 0 C = +32 F This 1 you just have to memorize -10 C = +14 F This is because if you subtract 18 (The magic number.) from 32 you get 14 -20 C = -4 F There are 2 reasons: Magic 18 from +14 gives you -4 & +14 & -4 both have 4's. -30 C = -22 F Because of Magic 18. This is where the World begins to get cold. -40 C = -40 F Easy to remember. A piece of cake. Even colder.
