Disapointed that the Noctilux doesnt work very well on the TL2

When I bought my TL2 it was to replace the SL that I just bought to use with my Noctilux..................The SL was great with the Noctilux but the size of the SL was just to big and clumsy so I decided to get rid of the SL and get the TL2 (Mistake). Don't get me wrong the TL2 with naïve lenses is fabulous but with the Noctilux it sucks..............I guess its got something to do with flange distance or orientation but you just don't get the beatifull squirly bits that I could get when using the SL and m bodies

...... because not only is focal length now effectively 75mm on APS-C ..... but aperture has also jumped ..... so wide open is nearer 1.4 now.

You have lost some of the shallow DOF and the resultant distinctive bokeh ... which wide open is mostly a result of aberrations that cannot be completely corrected.

Using lenses on cameras for which they were not designed is often going to be disappointing ......

I'm happy to put up with the size and weight of the SL for the simple reason it turns out great images with whatever you stick on the front of it.  :)

Having had almost every Leica camera in the last 10 years I have 'slimmed' down to the SL, Q and CL .... each with it's own particular use and they all complement each other very well.

Apart from possibly a 2nd SL body for landscape trips I think that is me done for a while. Just waiting for more lenses ....  :D

I will defiantly get an SL2 or whatever Leica come out with in the future with a FF sensor as long as its not bigger than the current SL (hopefully smaller) so that I can shoot my Noctilux again...........I just cant buy another SL on princable :(

Well you know the SL is a full frame camera and the TL2 is APS-C.... so there's going to be a difference.

You are now only using center portion of your Nocti. The tiniest bit of research could have saved you here my man.

;) Time spent on the forums.  Money on camera bodies. Frustration on lens disappointments.

hahahahaha

I enjoy time spent on the Leica Forum

I like my TL2 with native lenses

I love my Noctilux.....................its currently chilling in my dry box awaiting Leica to get there sh!t together and bring out a new FF M mount with IVF

I don´t understand your problem.

Your Nocti acts as a 75mm lens now. Which Nocti is it, there are 3?

Jan

The 50mm one

Oh no, your answer suggests that you are not yet better informed about the Leica system.
All Noctilux are 50mm with the exception of the newest 1.25-75mm asph. presented just a few days ago.
Even if something can by combined to anything it mustn't be meaningful always.
If the SL is too heavy for you, why isn't it just any Noctilux too?
A Noctilux on a TL seems to be similar senseless as mounting a Porsche engine to a bicycle. :)

Not all Noctilux are 50mm

The rest is not English so sorry I can answer that as I have no idea what you are talking about??

Nah, part of the fun of looking at these obscure threads (I have neither Noct' nor TL2) is reading the posts by Neil, and the replies.

His spell-checker is legendary, and as I.John has shown, the southern hemisphere sense of humour can get the canny Scot, occasionally.

So a discussion with you makes no sense.
Find out about Leica, it spares erroneous purchases and embarrassing contributions.

Please do not blame Neil for failing to understand your splendidly written post. I'm afraid your post might not be all that easy to understand for people not familiar with German and your at times peculiar use of it.

Seriously I have no idea what Nigel is going on about....................

The printable bit that John said had me baffled but after reading it a few times and going back over the thread, I cottoned on to what I had said and what John was taking the micky out of.

The truth of the matter is that the Noctilux can work on a TL2, its just not set up for that body, but no worries I am sure there will be something just around the corner that will make the Noctilux shine again, maybe a Lynoff 8x10 lens board could be the ticket
