Does anyone know if Lightroom can be expected to import, process or export images much faster with the new iMac Pro's 8,10,14 or 18 cores?

I'd expect a big improvement on video (using say Final Cut Pro), but not sure about stills.

Thanks

i think Lightroom 6++ cares more about the video card than the cores..but i might be totally wrong :)

you can check the LR GPU FAQ on adobe's site..has some details of usage..  [apparently im not supposed to post links to other sites]

C1 is way faster than LR [in my experience]

I dont' think so. Lightroom and Photoshop are more optimized for higher clock speeds ala i7 processors. This new iMac pro will be the best mac for this purpose. I have a 6-core trashcan mac pro at home with dual d500s (3gb each). Its a great machine and is fast enough for my needs. But at work I have the latest 27" 5K iMac with 4.2 GHz i7, 64GB of ram and the Radeon Pro 580 (8 Gb). It is faster than my mac pro regarding lightroom and photoshop. The mac pro with multi-core xeons is more suited for rendering 3d or video and would trounce the iMac at that.

2wk, how much RAM does your trashcan have?  I still think the quantity of RAM is important too.  Also what is the connectivity to the storage that you are using: vinternal SSD, Thunderbolt 2 to SSDs in a RAID, or network storage?

My 2013 MacPro lease is up in February.  I hope Apple finally has a replacement for the now ancient MacPro ready by then; but it is a faint hope.  It has been almost 6 months from the announcement of the iMac Pro until limited availability.  My value-added independent dealer would let me do speed comparisons, but in-stock 2018 MacPro computers are a long way off in the future.

Why does Apple treat graphics users so badly?  I wish Apple would sub-out its desktop workstation computers to Dell, allowing them to use MacOS.

Hey Z, 32 at my home rig. Which should be enough to unleash the beasts. Drives? Internal & usb 3.0 SSD's but not raid.

But I must say the new latest Lightroom Classic really helped speed things with my Mac Pro. They finally optimized for the GPU's i suppose. They are both really fast machines. The iMac is great value.

I'm not in any hurry to upgrade my whole setup. But I have read that you can finally easily adapt stick SSD's to use in the nMP. And the new ones are 2x a fast as the original apple ones. Also waiting on this announcement...

I would like to try an external GPU....gtx 1080ti.
