Bison Posted December 8, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Generally, I leave my charger at the house and charge as needed. However, with fewer clicks to a charge with the M10 battery, I feeI like I need to carry the charger with me when I know I'll be shooting a lot. It sure would be nice if Leica came up with a charger plug that wasn't the big bulky one that ships with the camera. Something along the lines of Nikon's D800 charger would be nice, but I know the M10 battery doesn't click into the Leica charging base. Maybe just a shorter power cord. Just a thought.

a.noctilux Posted December 8, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 8, 2017 Hello, I don't understand your thinking. Here, I have Nikon Charger MH-25 and Leica BC-SCL5 (M10): They are almost same size. With benefit of Leica's charger DC 12V and not on the Nikon's Charger.

With benefit of Leica's charger DC 12V and not on the Nikon's Charger. What I really want is a shorter, less bulky cable to plug the charger in with. It would take up less space in the bag. Funny thing, when the very same bag housed an M6 and an M3, I never needed room for a charger. ;-)

I do not understand what your point is. You should clarify. Thanks. With Leica you have even a plug to charge your battery in your car. I never had this with Canon on the other hand I never needed it. With the M10 I have 2 spare batteries. I never run out of battery power.

I keep a charger in my vehicle in a pocket behind the passenger's seat. It plugs into either a 115 volt AC socket behind the middle console, or a 12 Volt socket in the same place. The 115V charges only when the vehicle is running, but the 12V is live all the time.
larsv Posted December 8, 2017 Share #8 Posted December 8, 2017 (edited) a roll of film takes as much space as a battery. a battery charge lasts longer than a roll of film. Edited December 8, 2017 by larsv
michaelcole Posted December 8, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 8, 2017 marcg gave you the answer. The plugs for the apple chargers work great! Michael
M11 for me Posted December 8, 2017 Share #10 Posted December 8, 2017 a roll of film takes as much space as a battery. battery lasts longer than a roll of film. That is a very good pint. Maybe „the Bison“ took never a spare film and that is why the space in his M10 case is now missing for the battery. It seems to be a very tricky problem. Maybe zhe proper advice is just zo carry a few additional film instead of the bulky cable.

jkcampbell2 Posted December 9, 2017 Share #14 Posted December 9, 2017 Basically, what I said then Basically what you said, but with links to the actual products, and a second option of a short cord, and because Bison looks to be from the USA, a non European adapter. But yes basically what you said.

rent Posted December 16, 2017 Share #17 Posted December 16, 2017 I use the Apple “duck-head” plug that is part of their iPad or Mac power adapter. You can also get their World Travel Adapter Kit, which is a collection of these plugs. Any of these will plug directly into the Leica M10 battery charger. jkcampbell2 Posted December 16, 2017 Share #18 Posted December 16, 2017 Thanks. That is actually exactly the sort of solution I was looking for. I have one spare battery, already. I suppose I could tote another around, too. I just didn't like having to deal with the long power cord. Thanks for the tips. You are welcome, the right angle end plugs are the smallest solution but I like the short cord for it's versatility. I've found that in hotels sometimes the electrical outlets are in odd places like mounted in the base of a desk lamp which makes it hard to plug in the charger with the adapter. I've also found that sometimes the regular wall outlets are so worn from use that there is very little tension on the plug anymore and the charger falls out from it's own weight. When working trade shows and sales meetings I'm often working backstage or in the sound and video booth where there is usually access to power strips but using a typical all-in-one plug type charger can take up more than one slot on the strip which may put you on the wrong side of the AV guys. Anyway, I've tried a few solutions and for me the short cord is the best compromise of size and ease of use. I guess if I could design my own charger I'd like to have the flip out blade type plug, plus the option to use a cord, plus a 12v car plug, plus a USB cord option. That's not to much to ask is it?

marcelography Posted December 29, 2022 Share #20 Posted December 29, 2022 Has anyone tried using a USB C to power cable, to use the original Leica battery charger with a powerbank? I've found no USB C to 8 shaped plug, though, only with the 5.5x2.5 pin.
