Thambar-Crazy

I wonder if this lens appeals to those with good eyesight more than say, the short sighted. Since about five years old I have had to struggle (too strong a word) against blur and I don’t see the attraction of pictures which look like I’ve taken my glasses off and not got close enough. I can see it’s not the same kind of indistinctness but it provokes the same frustration in me.

Interesting perspective, Exodies. I just realized that I, too, have Thambar eyes. My World has gone a bit soft-focus in the last decade. I do, however, like many of the Thambar shots I am seeing, as I like not wearing my glasses.

To those who own the Thambar, please keep posting images. It helps me to think about how the World can be seen.

I was buggering about in the garden today, trying to understand... I'm finding my preferred aperture setting is around f2.8 red scale, strangely, mine doesn't have any markings between f/2.3 and F/3.2.

I'm still using mine around F8-F11 for landscape type stuff. I've never used a 90 very much in the past (other than my 90 Macro-Elmar for "macro") so the Thambar is as much a learning curve for me as a 90mm lens as it is for one that has an unorthodox look. However, here is one at around F5.6 that shows how uneven the field of focus is. No spot filter.

I took some last weekend stopped down and without the filter and - obviously - got the same type of effect. I must say, that at the moment, I'm not too keen on it, it reminds me of the lens-baby. And I understand why this would make some of our viewers feel a bit queasy!

Although it works much better in your photo!

Wash your mouth out!  :D  It's bad enough that Paul refers to Jack Vettriano in a recent post. I'm very happy for Peter H to express his scepticism (chime his bell of negativity or whatever it is that he has been accused of) in this thread but there are certain references that should be remain banned.

I particularly like the last one Albert (the 21mm photograph) – a subject framed by a grand piano is always a classic pose.

Still firmly in the experimental stage, I've been looking at bokeh and other out of focus effects and I generally like what I'm seeing in the F4-F5.6 range.
