Advertisement Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 Hi louistian, Take a look here M10 silver or black ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gregor_24 Posted December 5, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 5, 2017 I would go for a silver M10 paired with a silver lense. I triied also both M10 (black and silver) and i would take the silver version. Looks amazing in silver. anickpick Posted December 5, 2017 Share #3 Posted December 5, 2017 It has already been discussed here: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/268672-black-or-silver-–-and-does-it-matter/ Consensus seems to be that the silver body has slightly better high iso. On the other hand it will be much easier to focus the new 75mm Noctilux on a black body... Tough choice... 7
Lucena Posted December 5, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 5, 2017 Had the information at Leica store that on warm climas like mine (South Portugal, same as North Africa) silver suffer less than black, in the contrary if you live in a cold country black is better.
250swb Posted December 5, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 5, 2017 (edited) Silver for a digital camera is a stylish choice in the world today. Now it's unusual in cameras whereas it was common forty years ago. People look at it because it's attractive, retro, sparkly, and it's gets lots of 'oh's' and 'are's' and especially 'can you still get film for those?' types of comment. So it's lots of fun and takes accessorising with straps and cases very well, the silver going particularly well with a brown half case and strap. So I chose black chrome. Narsuitus Posted December 5, 2017 Share #7 Posted December 5, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought a black M10 just so it could easily distinguish it from my silver M6.

evikne Posted December 5, 2017 Share #10 Posted December 5, 2017 I think silver is nicest and has the most classic look. But I chose black, because I think it has better stealth properties.
robert blu Posted December 5, 2017 Share #11 Posted December 5, 2017 Most of my cameras have been black since when I was a boy. So my m7, the 7 years old (still working) Leica X1 and the m10 now and related lenses are black. Black is black and I love it. But...I was this morning in a Leica Store (just bought the EVF 020) where I had opportunity to handle, touch and feel a silver m10 with the silver 50 cron on it and...beautiful!!! robert
Dr. G Posted December 5, 2017 Share #12 Posted December 5, 2017 I bought the silver. My lenses are black, though, only because I got great deals on them pre-owned.
Simon Posted December 5, 2017 Share #13 Posted December 5, 2017 (edited) I prefer black. The brown case on black also looks very good. Any of the coloured cases really. You could try a red case on black for something really striking. Black on black looks a little plain but will also garner less attention and be quite stealthy at night. Stonewall Brigade Posted December 6, 2017 Share #14 Posted December 6, 2017 M10 in black or silver? Not to brag, but I have one of each. Impossible to prefer one over the other as they are subtly different in appearance.
doublev Posted December 6, 2017 Share #15 Posted December 6, 2017 Here is the definitive answer. Silver looks better than black. As discussed repeatedly here it also has improved ISO performance. Further, it is nostalgic and cool. The black, however, is stealthy. Since I bought into the M camera because I wanted a full frame in a small body with a quiet shutter I go with the black. I can wear the camera with a small 35mm and nobody will notice it. The silver is more noticeable. I mostly shoot with a 50 noctilux and still I feel it is somewhat incognito since it wear it cross body So if you want a camera that looks great on the shelf and in public go with the silver. If you want a camera that blends in and is more discreet go with the black. I like to do street photography and prefer to be more discreet so the black is better for me. Silver looks better but I prefer the black. Some people take it to the extreme and change the red leica logo to black. I am not there yet but if I could have bought the camera with no logo or a black one I would have preferred that too. I dont want to show off my camera, just take great pics discreetly. jmahto Posted December 6, 2017 Share #17 Posted December 6, 2017 Here is my definitive response: bullsh*t. Thanks for calling out incorrect assertion. The black one has better ISO performance (better shadow recovery is indicated by black color.)
doublev Posted December 6, 2017 Share #18 Posted December 6, 2017 (edited) oh.. black M10 also is 5.2fps instead of just 5. I think the buffer is 10mb bigger too. OP, in all seriousness, just pick the one you like. There is no right or wrong answer. I do feel silver is nostalgic and black is discreet. I think it is important to pick the one you like because presumably you will buy silver or black lenses to go with it and the lenses you will likely keep as you trade up on the body over time. I don't think one is in more demand than the other. When you go to sell, I don't think it matters at all.. so buy what you like and that is all that matters. If you can't decide then flip a coin. Same with a camera case.. some people like brown, people like black, and others go with some wild colors.. all personal preference and none is right or wrong. otto.f Posted December 6, 2017 Share #19 Posted December 6, 2017 Black discreet? Black is macho (look at me, I’m from Magnum), silver is distinguished and humbly admitting you’re an amateur
jlindstrom Posted December 6, 2017 Share #20 Posted December 6, 2017 Any color is fine as long as it’s black! On a more serious note, both look excellent. If you don’t have a preference, pick the one that’s available. Also if you’re dead set on matching lenses with the body, black makes life easier as black lenses are more readily available. With silver body you’d end up with a Panda look, which in itself isn’t necessarily ugly... Naturally none of this has any relevance to your photos, so don’t obsess over it.
