I like to push my film to 1600 usually because i like higher shutter speeds not just to freeze other peoples movement but also to freeze my movement. The thing is my camera only goes up to 1000th. How do i do the maths because i would really like to get good at eyeballing the light instead of relying on a meter.

It is all a geometric progression. If you know the right exposure for 200 ASA, then cut your exposure by 1/2 for 400 ASA (close 1 stop OR increase shutter speed by 1 notch).

400 - 1 stop

800 - 2 stops

1600 - three stops

3200 - four stops.
