Does anyone have the specification and/or manufactures name of the 7 pin plug attached to the electronic cable release (14254) or remote control (14202) for the R8 /9 motor winder / DMR?

Help much appreciated

I have used such a cable extensively last year to trigger my DMR from a pocket wizard. I still have my cable but not the DMRs. I don't have the schematics, but if you contact Paramount cords, they will make one for you -- cost is about $200.

I wouldn't plug anything in there unless it had "Leica" written on the thing on the other end of the wire.

Why do you need to know?

I currently use an R5 with motor winder to to take night time shots of wildlife. As well as a long electronic remote control I also use a wireless trigger and an infrared trigger. These are wired to two 5 pin plugs supplied by Leica themselves a number of years ago. (Only two terminal pins are needed to fire the shutter. The other pins are either spare or are used to transmit information back to the RC remote control) I now want to use my R8 / DMR instead of the R5 BUT Leica have changed the plug from a five pin to a seven pin and the two plugs are not interchangeable.

Ian:

I did a google to find the original post regarding making a remote. It links to the old version of this forum, but would not bring up the post.

Here is the part number for the connector you need. You might want to ask the administrators here how to search the old forum archives.

binder 711 1 99-0479-100-08

I ordered a a few of them from Binder-USA. If you are in Europe, I think there is a Binder UK office as well.

Has anybody got a diagram of the pins? Which two control the release?

Jaap:

Here is the post by Rick Dykstra. I used his instructions to make my remote cord.

"There is a pdf on the site for type 711 connectors showing the arrangement of pins.

The following pin out was provided to me by Leica Service in Solms.

Pin 1 is electrical Ground.

To activate the camera's meter: connect pin 1 to pin 8 for longer than 20msec.

To release the camera: connect pin 1 to pin 2 for longer than 120msec. Continuous connection will result in continuous release.

Once you have the pdf, trying shorting the respective pins on the motor drive or DMR and the camera will behave as indicated.

Be aware, soldering these connectors is not for those of use with fingers like Shrek. It can be done with care and a fine tipped soldering iron. Make sure you have the orientation of the pins right, for male and female ends. I had to re-do one of mine.

thanks, Rob. I just made the release cable for my Noflexar. Works like a dream. The soldering - no problem :) I did fill the plug with epoxy, as it is all quite fragile.
