An interesting picture I shot in Dec of 2013. This is a rare phenomenon where otherwise flat and dry lake bed playa gets submerged in a very shallow (few inched deep) pool of water from a very rare wet weather. This shallow water freezes in a ice sheet overnight and thaws during the day. This rare event is responsible for the mysterious (not any more) movement of the rocks on playa surface. Outside this rare event, the rock movements marks are visible on the surface. See wikipedia entry below:

It used to be a mystery for many decades and got solved in Dec/Jan of 2013/14 by a team of researchers in the same week I had shot this picture (I didn't know about the research and didn't meet anybody there).

 

At that time I did not know I am witnessing a rare event. :)
