This focusing steer is a bit interesting. But does it make it possible to focus with just one finger, or do I still need a two finger grip if the focus ring is a bit heavy? It's annoying that the viewfinder is blocked if I use two fingers and hold the camera vertically.

It entirely depends on how 'light' the focus ring on the particular lens is.  For example, I cannot focus with one finger and a Steer with my 50/1 Noctilux but it was no problem with the 50/0.95 Noctilux asph I used to own.  Smaller lenses such as my 35/2 Summicron v4 are no problem even with the focus tab that it already has.

We all have stories to tell about the FABLED LEICA LENS THAT GOT AWAY....

Nonetheless, there is nothing you can do about it now....

I agree that you should perfect your technique with the 75 mm and use it in tandem with your 35 mm.

If it doesn't work out then you can always get another 50 mm.

As to the 50 mm, I sold my 1.4 several years ago for the 50 mm AA and HAVE NOT REGRETTED IT AT ALL.

The 50 mm AA is an amazing lens and there is nothing like it. period, end of story...
