gwpics Posted December 1, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 1, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Last night I took a trip into the centre of the city to look at the temporary ice rink but also took the opportunity to photograph the latest city centre leisure complex consisting of 10 cinema screens and countless restaurants. The ice rink is visible as the blue area bottom left, but not the purpose of this image. I must be honest, it is probably a young persons place, and I am not a young person, but I was quite pleased with my efforts. Here is a sample image taken at 2500iso using the Leica M240 and 24mm Elmarit-M f2.8. Settings were 1/45 at f2.8 (no tripod). Jay B Posted December 2, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 2, 2017 M240? A change from the M9? Great image; too bad they couldn't restore the old buildings instead of that monstrosity!
gwpics Posted December 2, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted December 2, 2017 M240? A change from the M9? Great image; too bad they couldn't restore the old buildings instead of that monstrosity! Thanks for the compliment Jay. The good thing is that large sections of the old walls are now much more visible and accessible as a direct result of the development. There is another development which has just started where another 2 or 3 hundred meters of wall will be exposed. These walls date back to the 1300's and are the old city walls. I bought the M240 because my M9 is stuck in Leica Germany for repair/sensor and I just needed digital so i traded my M7 in and bought a M240 which I love. I enjoyed my time back with film but I found restrictions based on iso and also the need to shoot for a longer time before I could access the images. Hope all is well with you. gwpics Posted December 8, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted December 8, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) No tripod! Steady hand for and old guy...... Not so much of the 'old' - I am a mere 72 years young and despite the recent cardiac arrest hope to be going for a while yet! Of course, using a Leica and a 24mm lens helps Gerry
Sandokan Posted December 14, 2017 Share #8 Posted December 14, 2017 Lovely shot with the leading lines and colours. Southampton has really changed since I lived there in the '80s. It has got younger and I have not.
gwpics Posted December 14, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted December 14, 2017 Lovely shot with the leading lines and colours. Southampton has really changed since I lived there in the '80s. It has got younger and I have not. That is very true. With around one in every seven people here a student it now has a vibrant nightlife with some great bars and restaurants. It also has one of the worst pollution problems in the UK and horrendous traffic. Where were you here? Thanks for looking and liking my image. Sandokan Posted December 15, 2017 Share #10 Posted December 15, 2017 I was one of the 1:7. Always lived in Bassett area. Restaurants were just average quality but changed often enough. No pollution back then, but most of us were too poor to own a car. I guess now every student there has Mamma or Pater buying them a GTI. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk The major problem is the cruise liners (we can get 6 a day) and all the traffic into town. Also there is no Park & Ride, and the public transport is crap. I live 3 miles from the town centre and there is one bus every hour! Gerry
