3rd party lens hoods for Zeiss 35/1.4 ZM distagon

I do not think that there is anything that really works well other than the Zeiss hood. The problem is the inevitable increase in finder blockage, and the official hood is vented to minimise this (though it is still a problem).

A simple alternative would be a single step-up ring (49mm to 52mm). I sometimes find this useful to avoid accidental finger marks, but it will not do much for flare suppression if that is what you want.

FWIW, the official hood is too shallow to do all that much for flare suppression (not a big problem with this lens anyway), but it does help protect the front element. Clear filters are not a good alternative because they can produce some nasty flare interactions with the concave surface of the front lens.

Thanks, I should have added more. I will be using the ZM lens on an SL, so there are no issues about viewfinder blockage. I have today ordered the lens with a Zeiss UV filter. I don’t know if/how the hood fits with a filter installed - I have asked Zeiss via FB Messenger but they have had to speak to their product specialists.

As Lens is going to be used on SL and RF blockage is non issue try B&W who makes rubber collapsabl3 lens hoods, this’s is from Amazon UK, probably similar offering where you live.

I usually find miscellaneous items in rummage bins of photo retailers, typically selling for pound/dollar a piece.

Cosina makes the Zeiss ZM lenses and also their own Voigtlander. I found the Voigtlander hood for the VC 35 f1.4 lens also fits the Zeiss Biogon 35 f2.0 and the Planar 50 f2.0.

The Voigtlander 35 f1.2 also takes a bayonet hood. I don't know if it might fit the Zeiss 35 f1.4. The Zeiss takes an M49 filter and the VC 35 f1.2 an M52 filter, so it probably doesn't, but you might check.

I think the VC and Zeiss hoods of the same size are identical except for markings. The VC are priced some less, but not a lot.

For my 28 an 35mm Lenses acually I use these great hoods:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Schlitzblende-kurz-49mm-Gegenlichtblende-Sonnenblende-Metall-Universal-49-mm/172361544871?hash=item28218c74a7:g:vQYAAOSwHBVZzPim

Available for  different filter sizes ...

Thanks Chris, these look v good. Can you pls confirm that they are bayonet mount and fit ok?

I tried my Fuji X100S hood and while it did sit on the front of the lens, it was very loose and rattled - so no good.

Thanks!
