This is just lovely, are they both yours? Im struggling with the greens in all my shots so I don't think you're alone.

Thank you, my two Granddaughters.  Think I've just got in the habit of converting to black and white for most of my people shots.

I'm with you I guess. I tend not to get into a lot of the preset choices - except when I convert to B&W. With B&W I find it useful to use a preset as a starting point and make changes from there to taste. With colour, I may do an "Auto" adjustment of light but I often find that does off from where I want. So I land up adjusting exposure and contrast again as well as shadows and highlights. I usually prefer to keep it reasonably natural with just enough adjustments to make dark shadows more visible and very over-exposed areas less bright. Trying at the same time not to make things look to artificial or flat.

There have been occasions when I do want a particular effect and then I may do something more but generally I prefer the above.

A very nice picture, by the way.

Even if you avoid using presets, I suggest that you add one of your own after processing a portrait or landscape to your satisfaction. It is an economic starting point for the future and can be tweaked if necessary,
