Csacwp Posted November 20, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 20, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Any idea what is causing the dark banding in my photos? I took these with tri-x and my M4. They were lab processed and scanned on a flatbed Epson. https://we.tl/s-mY24oPG22V
Advertisement Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Hi Csacwp, Take a look here Banding- is this a camera problem?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
michaelwj Posted November 20, 2017 Share #2 Posted November 20, 2017 No. (we're talking about the subtle horizontal (along the frame) ones visible in the sky?). My guess would be a development issue though. It's not a typical shutter or light leak issue. The easy way to test it on a flatbed is to rotate it 90 degrees and scan it again. If it's a scan issue then the lines would change orientation.
pop Posted November 21, 2017 Share #3 Posted November 21, 2017 I think your chances for a reply might be better when you posted a sample here. The link you provided prompts the user to download an object of unknown properties from a site of unknown properties. Many won't do that.
Csacwp Posted November 21, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted November 21, 2017 It’s just a we transfer link with a couple of jpegs. I’m on vacation and don’t have software with me to downsize the jpegs.
Ko.Fe. Posted November 21, 2017 Share #5 Posted November 21, 2017 It is not dark. It is dark-brighter-dark. Too complicated for shutter or light leak, IMO.
jerzy Posted November 23, 2017 Share #6 Posted November 23, 2017 under certain condition such problem may be caused by deffective curtains. Condition - short exposure only, 1/1000, seldom 1/500. I have seen it few times on LTMs however not yet on M. there was discusssion https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/278446-misaligned-images-on-iid-negatives/page-3 about such defect, post 56 shows deffective curtain edge and post 65 its effect on the frame. M cameras have metal edges, you will not see "hairs" as it is in screwmount, still it might be worth to check if metal edge is not damaged/bent, best with the finger. But if the problem happens as well with longer exposure times (1/100, 1/200) I would exclude shutter. And I am convinced that you checked the negatives, they are not scratched. adan Posted November 23, 2017 Share #7 Posted November 23, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I suspect it is a drying problem after processing. How does you lab dry film? Hanging cabinet?
