alpinecine Posted November 8, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently bought a used "mint" Summilux 35 ASPH FLE and upon receiving it I discovered the inside of the lens to be extremely dusty. Needless to say, I returned it immediately. I do wonder how this could be possible though - the lens was sold to the previous owner in 2016/10 so it's been used for about a year. I just can't believe a one-year-old lens can have this much dust in it. Is there some type of design flaw with the FLE version that makes it prone to dust? I'm thinking about getting a new one so I don't want the lens to be like this after a year... Welcome, dear visitor! Reeray Posted November 8, 2017 Share #2 Posted November 8, 2017 I've had mine for 3/4 years now and its my most used lens. It has zero dust inside so I can assure you the above lens is not normal. Buy with confidence.
marcg Posted November 8, 2017 Share #3 Posted November 8, 2017 I bought a second-hand one some time ago and it was perfect – and it still is
anickpick Posted November 8, 2017 Share #4 Posted November 8, 2017 This lens is not ok. You‘ll be fine with a new 35 Fle (as long as you do not bring it to a Holi festival or use it in the midst of the Sahara).
michaelwj Posted November 8, 2017 Share #5 Posted November 8, 2017 That looks like 40 years worth of dust, not a year. Stupid question, but is it all inside and not on the external surfaces?
lct Posted November 8, 2017 Share #6 Posted November 8, 2017 I recently bought a used "mint" Summilux 35 ASPH FLE and upon receiving it I discovered the inside of the lens to be extremely dusty. [...] Never seen that on any lens including my 35/1.4 FLE which is not more dust prone than others. This is not acceptable at all.

alpinecine Posted November 8, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted November 8, 2017 That looks like 40 years worth of dust, not a year. Stupid question, but is it all inside and not on the external surfaces? no it's all inside. the external surface actually looks pristine. my own theory is this lens was dropped in some dirty water - otherwise I can't explain..
