Sunrise in Mount Cook National Park

I spent a few days in New Zealand for the first time, and I'll be returning for a much longer trip of two weeks, running around the South Island. This in particular was such a beautiful morning to be out in the valley near Lake Pukaki making photographs with only the occasional car driving down Mt Cook Road.

I think it was here that I realised how much I could get used to doing landscape photography (and vlogging) with more dedication.

And the first panorama featured in the video. I'll be back next Feb also with a 90mm F4 Leitz Minolta Rokkor-M so I'll have a little more versatility with telephoto reach.

Yeah, I had the 75mm Summarit briefly but I had it for portraits mostly. Since embracing landscape photography more deliberately, I've been stretching the use of my 50mm! I needed something long but not bank-breaking.

I agree with you on the 90, Nick. I’ve sold mine, but the 75 suffices!

We did the same last year. 14 days circumnavigating the South Island. We too plan to return.

For me, it is such a beautiful and welcoming country to visit given how close it is to us. For all intents and purposes, this 4 day "teaser" had a big effect on me, more than all my other travel.

I've finished booking next February's two week trip. I'm starting in Queenstown, hiking and camping through Routeburn, ending it with a Milford Sound boat cruise, returning to Queenstown, heading to Brighton/Dunedin for a beach visit, returning again to Queenstown before making my way to Wanaka, then Mt Cook valley then flying from Christchurch to Wellington/Featherstone for a few days with relatives.

This will give me a good bit of breathing room to stretch my legs in the South island.

Thanks stuny :) My dad travelled throughout the west coast and Fiordland in 1979 and was showing me everywhere he went. I would love to do a flight of some kind while I'm there for sure, whether it's Franz Josef or another glacier. Just depends on logistics I guess.

Lovely area, lovely photos.  You can take a flight-seeing  trip to Franz Josef Glacier and land there, weather permitting.
