Straps for the Leica SL

I am using a Black Rapid sliding strap with a Really Right Stuff quick release that plugs in to the RRS L-plate.  Very quick and easy to take on or off for tripod use.  That being said, I couldn't resist buying a used Tie Her Up Rock N Roll black strap - people seem to love this strap and it has elasticity so you don't feel all the weight of the gear (like Op-Tech Pro straps).  It should arrive in the next day or so...

I tried a few different straps but I settled on the “Tie Her Up - Rock n Roll” strap. Perfect for the SL, even with the 24-90 mounted on.

That's the strap that I am using as well. I got the 125 cm length, so that I can wear the strap like a sling across my body. It makes the camera seem lighter and also very easy to move into shooting position.

Here is my setup...

For ordinary shooting, city strolls and when hiking (*), I only use a hand strap (Gordy's strap). I guess this goes for 90+% of the shooting.

For longer walks, I may use one the Peak Design straps fasten to the anchor links, with the lower anchor sitting on the RSS-plate. The latter is on the body all the time, so no need to screw/unscrew when using tripod.

On long walks with lots of gear and/or with a long lens and/or with two bodies, I use the Magpul strap, either fasten directly to the RSS plate (having a QD-hole near one of the the corners of the RSS plate), or via the small clamp that can be fixed anywhere under the RSS-plate for optimal balance or, better, on the lens' tripod collar (all equipped with RSS plates).

I agree that this is perhaps not the most fancy/well-looking way to equip the body... But it is convenient and the body can be 'rigged' in no time depending on the type of shooting.

(*) Regarding hiking: Here I use the smallest possible bag of the type of a zoom case for the body-lens combo I bring with me, with the camera in from above, lens down. The strap of the zoom case runs diagonally over one shoulder, and the backpack's hip strap keeps the case from swinging. In this way I can freely use hiking poles, and still having quick access to the camera. I originally thought the SL+24-90 combo would be too big and heavy for hiking, but after several week-long and rather strenuous hiking trips with this combo, I have no hesitation anymore...

I am using a Luigi Crescenzi "Silky" strap which is leather and flat braided silk webbing on my SL. Not only is this very flexible and comfortable round the neck, with its suede lined pad but it is also very comfortable wrapped round your hand. However, I find the SL, with the 24-90 at about or even slightly above the weight limit I am prepared to carry wrapped round my arthritic hand. I have the same strap on my M240 and M7, where carrying them with the strap wrapped round my hand is a much more comfortable proposition. Here is a picture of the Silky Strap on my M7 (with 85mm/f1,5 Summarex lens).

I also have the Tieherup RocknRoll strap. It’s the best I have tried so far. Highly recommended.
