Alternative Lens Hoods for Ver 4 28mm Elmarit

Hello,

I have an Elmarit 28mm Ver 4 lens (46mm filter) and was curious if there are any better lens hoods than the original which comes with it...

the one I have keeps coming apart and doesn't seem to want to engage with the little detent which prevents it from spinning.

I realize that these lenses are not very prone to flare...and for the non-hood user gang, please do not tell me to "just use it without a hood".

I realize it can be used without a hood. I prefer using hoods.

I'm asking if there is an alternative anyone uses...would screw in vented round hoods vignette?

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Uli,

Thanks for the info. As is always the story of my life, they look impossible to find.

I have no experience with this lens but it has the same diameter as Summicron 28/2 v1 if i'm not wrong. You should then be able to use the same hoods i.e. 12466 (see above), 12451 (big, ugly but efficient), 12588 (smaller, nicer but tends to fall off more easily) and 12589 (same as 12588 with a locking ring). My favorite is 12588 but 12589 is more secure. Only con 12589 gets somewhat in the way of the aperture ring but the superb 12466 is not much better from this viewpoint.

12588 & 12466:

Thanks for the reply ICT,

I like the 12466, but it appears to be as rare as hens teeth. I see that Danish Photog Thorsten Overgaard makes them, but they are threaded

into the filter mount, much like the common ones found on Ebay for cheap.

I would like to find a round metal one for the 28 Ver 4....would it vignette I wonder or would it have to be "creatively" filed?

I have two Elmarit 28 Ver.4 lenses and although ones original  hood is fine, the other is coming apart, and I don't like the design.

Guess I'm outta luck.

Heavystar did sell one on eBay if memory serves. Inexpensive, poor paint quality but does the job if it is like the ones i've used in the past. I have no experience with 46mm ones though.

Just found this linkhttps://www.ebay.com/itm/201877285456?rmvSB=true

Ya, I've seen plenty of the screw-in circular metal type on Ebay for cheap, but I was looking to find a design that

uses the reg. mount.

A little update...SO, I ended up finding a very well made 46mm hood replacement on Ebay

to fit my Elmarit 28mm V4. It does not use the standard mount of the massive plastic

rectangular one.

A seller out of China called "nice-meeting-you" makes a very high quality one. It threads

on using the filter threads and is well designed, and great quality. As a bonus, it also has

inner filter threadsto use a filter. The hood is Wide Angle and does not vignette and is visually very nice.
