Denys Posted October 30, 2017 Share #5 Posted October 30, 2017 (edited) Sorry to read that - and it’s easy for me to say - equipment can be replaced.. ..no sense in putting you’re safety at risk. I believe if you inform Leica and quote the serial numbers then if the camera is sent for servicing it won’t be returned. Not sure whether Leica dealers have access to stolen serial numbers (possibly someone else here can clarify). That would identify the problem if the stuff is handed in for a trade-in or sales transaction. Could be, of course, the muggers just sold it on the black market. We're going to Spain in January and next summer, and would appreciate any info about risk scenarios. Do you think they went for the camera or did they just grab a bag? Barcelona and Seville are two hot spots. Anywhere in "normal" Spain is the same as anywhere in "normal" England. Keep a low profile or stick to the rural ares of Spain where the people are lovely, friendly and honest. I love real Spain, away from the tourists. In those quiet places, of which there are a multitude, you are safe. Tourist Spain is a problem for anyone with trinkets. Trinkets anywhere fill a bandit's appetite. You should contact Leica in Wetzlar & give them the information that you have provided here so that: If they are contacted by someone who has or is contemplating buying or verifying some or all of this equipment, or wants to have something serviced, that: Leica will know that the equipment is stolen. Not even when I sit in a bar or café or a restaurant. A thief just need a blink of an eye to catch your bag and then it is gone. So, never leave it alone, not even very close to you, or in your car unwaited, always keep it across your shoulder, the bag resting on your lap. I do so. And money and credit cards, passport, etc in a pouch under pants front. Best wishes to the OP going forward. That little red logo catches thieves eyes! I keep my camera and or bag all twisted around my arm/hands ect. If they yank at it, I am going with them!
