Steve Ricoh Posted October 28, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 28, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) https://petapixel.com/2017/10/27/fujifilm-killing-off-films-2018-things-look-grim/ If not for the company's long standing association with film, they would not chose to use the brand name FujiFilm on a digital camera. I think the name would become increasingly senseless if they were to pull the plug on analogue.
Advertisement Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Hi Steve Ricoh, Take a look here Is the start of FujiFilm getting out of film. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted October 28, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 28, 2017 If Fujifilm are "getting out of film" they will presumably just stop making it full stop. Trimming a few lines and changing packaging configurations isn't really the same thing and even this clickbait type "article" acknowledges what film Fujifilm will still be offering. After this latest round of discontinuations, there will only be a very small handful of Fujifilm slide, negative, and black-and-white film stocks left: Fujichrome Velvia 50 Fujichrome Velvia 100 Fujichrome Provia 100F Fujicolor Superia Venus 800 Fujicolor Superia Premium 400 Fujicolor 100 Fujicolor Pro 400H Fujicolor Pro 160NS Neopan 100 Acros rolls Hardly a small handful IMO. More than enough variety to keep most photographers happy. Incidentally, the petapixel piece quotes Japan Camara Hunter. He is not an unbiased authority and has, I understand, some history in talking down Fujifilm.
sblitz Posted October 28, 2017 Share #3 Posted October 28, 2017 Was just at the PDN Photoplus Expo in NYC and they had one wall (admittedly and expectedly a small spot) of their area showing their different films plus a larger area designated for their instant camera (even Polaroid, at least the name) is back. So I agree with Ian, reconfiguring the business to keep some portion alive is rational and acceptable and in no signals shut-down, at least not to me.
Lukas F. Posted October 28, 2017 Share #4 Posted October 28, 2017 I've to admit that personally I don't really care as long as Velvia 50 and Acros 100 (both in 35mm film) still are available. Sad though, that the Acros won't be around anymore for LF.
105012 Posted October 29, 2017 Share #5 Posted October 29, 2017 Agree, hope Acros remains, beautiful images, highlight handling exceptional.
philipus Posted October 30, 2017 Share #6 Posted October 30, 2017 It's soon time for FujiFilm to drop the latter half of its name...
