hwangauto@aol.com Posted October 25, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 25, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently start to shoot some night sky, I am wondering how long can the shutter stay open on my M9? I noticed last time it shut off after 30 minutes.
Advertisement Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Hi hwangauto@aol.com, Take a look here M9 Bulb shutter setting. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pico Posted October 26, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2017 (edited) Thirty minutes! Interesting because I thought the max duration was 4 minutes followed by another 4 minutedark frame. Then I read that Thorsten Overgaard discovered a T setting. He wrote: "T mode for long exposure using self timer. The Leica M9 has a "T" function. Set to self timer(to 2 or 12 seconds in the Menu, then turn the wheel by the shutter far left to the self timer symbol),set exposure dial to "B", activate the self timer by pressing the shutter, the shutter will open and stayopen until the release button is tapped again. This function works on the M8 and M8.2 as well." I will test this myself and come back. Edited October 26, 2017 by pico
pico Posted October 26, 2017 Share #3 Posted October 26, 2017 (edited) Didn't work with Thorsten's tip. M9. I got 240 seconds and the 240 second black frame. It could be due to firmware version. Mine is 1.210.I would like to know how you got 30 minutes. Edited October 26, 2017 by pico
pico Posted October 28, 2017 Share #4 Posted October 28, 2017 Silly me. The original poster was a first-time thing. If only entire threads could be deleted.
pico Posted October 30, 2017 Share #5 Posted October 30, 2017 (edited) Okay, last post to correct my my mention of Thorsten's post regarding a T-Stop. What he probably meant is that the T-stop worked within Leica's imposition of a 4 minute maximum exposure time and does not work beyond that limit. Forgive my misunderstanding, please. .
