M10 holster and M240?

Does anyone own both a Leica M240 and a Leica M10 with it's respective leather holster (Leica 24016)? I have a M-P (typ 240) - and I'll probably wait for a future M10-P to make a switch - so I was wondering if it would fit in the M10 holster, as it is almost the same size - just 3 millimetres thicker. I'd be just great if someone could do the test and share some pictures. Thanks!

Warm regards,
Ali Carvalho

PS: maybe the Leica Q leather holster (Leica 19503) could also fit the M240/M-P. Can anyone try this?

I tried my M-D 262 in the M10 holster in Leica Mayfair just to see if it would fit to give me yet another strap/bag/case/whatever option.....it was a bit too snug so I'm not sure a 240 will fit. Didn't have mine with me to check but IMHO it would need to be forced in (and then forced out again while the 'decisive moment' slips away)

Nigel,

Thanks for sharing your experience. The folks at Leica Store just replied to me, including some pics of an M240 inside M10 holster. According to them it works, as long as you use a naked camera - a leather case would make it impossible. I'll try to find a third party option or maybe even order something custom made. Suggestions are welcomed. :)

Best regards,

Hi Ali, did you end up getting a holster for your cameras?

Apparently the M240 also fits in a Leica Q holster.

I didn't get it yet. I felt that it was too tight to be used on a regular basis. At least the M10 holster.

I think I'd like it to be tight, to prevent it moving around within the holster and accidentally falling out. On the other hand, I don't know how tight it is, you may be right to be cautious.

The M9 will probably fit much better than the M240, as it's similar to the M10 in size.

I ordered one. How rash is that? I have a problem with one of my shoulders and am very keen to move away from a camera bag

No it isn't, unfortunately.

The M9 and M240 are virtually identical in size apart from the little thumb-grip on the back of the M240.

The M9 and M240 are virtually the same depth. The M10 is a few mm thinner.

The M240 is much chunkier than the M10, by nearly 5mm. That's why it almost doesn't fit into the M10 holster (as seen on the pics above). That's also what I read on virtually every M10 review (many of them comparing it's size to the old M9).

In fact, according to B&H, the M9 is slightly thinner:

M9 - 139.7 x 78.7 x 38.1 mm

M240 - 139.7 x 78.7 x 43.2mm

M10 - 139.0 x 80.0 x 38.5mm

On camerazise.com it's a bit different, but same conclusion:

M9 - 139.0 x 80.0 x 37.0 mm

M240 - 139.0 x 80.0 x 42.0mm

M10 - 139.0 x 80.0 x 38.5mm

There’s a but, as always;

The M10 body is thinner than the M9’s but the thickness you quote is measured at the point of the thumb-wheel grip, not the rest of the body. If you hold the two cameras, or three if you include the M240, you’ll understand that the M10 is appreciably the thinnest.
