My HP Deskjet 5550 quit working when I installed High Sierra.

Have tried downloading hplip-3.17.10.tar.gz from Sourceforge.net but can make no sense of the package.

Anyone got a pointer to getting this printer going again?

Thanks!

Jeff--

My Deskjet 5550 has lasted probably twenty years and never once had clogged heads. It's not my go-to printer for photos, but a later HP printer I had only lasted three years and I don't want to give up the 5550's general-purpose reliability if I can help it.

Thanks for the link; you always find solutions I'm unable to turn up!

I had a similar problem with a Kodak printer which I find useful for producing cheap postcard size prints or less important stuff as the ink cost is very low.

I initially had a problem finding a suitable patch but after a few weeks Kodak produced a fix and the printer became operable again. Also had the same thing happen with a 20 year old Brother B and White Lazer printer.

Whatever you do ,don’t scrap your Deskjet 5550.

I solvel all these issues years ago.  Bought a Mac Pro Tower, added 3 internal drives,  unplugged it from the internet except for required updates.    Using an older iMac for mail etc.

Cars are the same way.  Fix yourself or live with it broken or use an indepemdent service.  Never let it see the dealer where they will butcher you car.  90% of my problems went away 40 years on
