Day One Walkabout

Picked up my very first Leica product the other day - a Leica Q.  I'm very impressed, especially when compared to the weight of my Nikon D810 kit!  So, here's one of the images taken (auto everything) on a very overcast day in Spain.  Nothing special, but I'm stunned by how far it can be over pushed in Lightroom.  I don't see the fringing around the leaves on the DNG, so I guess that is down to Adobe.

1000px JPGs, compressed to ~200Kb.

Nice pics, thanks for posting. I also come from Nikon D810 having used that setup for a few years with very good results. Just getting tired of lugging around the gear...and this Leica seems awesome. Mine should be delivered next Friday. Just wondering if we’re spending top dollar on a product that’s about to be updated.

Given the way the Q is and has been selling and that Leica are rumoured to be introducing a silver chrome finish version I would be surprised if the Q is near the end of the line. Spend top dollar and enjoy! I still produce good quality images from my aged D800 and I anticipate producing 'top dollar' images from my Q for years to come even when a replacement has some new 'nice to have' features.

My original intent was to buy an M10, but I found the optical viewfinder to be incompatible with my spectacles and not having any M lenses would have meant finding a buyer for all my Nikon stuff.   Then I discovered the Q, lighter and with its fantastic viewfinder.   It is top dollar (for a fixed lens compact), but its beautifully engineered and feels just right.  I believe you get what you pay for.  However, I'll need to be careful when being tempted towards some of the Leica or third-party add-ons - such as hand grips, thumb grips or any of those fancy carry bags.  I've ordered a Tamrac Apache 2.2 at €77 (incl. delivery) from Amazon and hoping that will do for now.

Thanks to all for recommending the Thumbs Up, but I have a question about is.   Does it make it difficult to reach around to the thumb wheel, when using it for exposure compensation?

A real problem for big hands.

I chose the Lim case/grip and LOVE it with a very small exception: Tripod plates (I use Arca) block the battery/card door.

But I rarely use the Q in tripod.

Depends how big your hands are! It extends not quite as far to the right as the right hand edge of the 'groove' in the body. I find there is no problem at all with 'average' hands and there is a nice curve which links in to the body contour making access no more difficult than if it was not fitted.
