Dear all,

first of all : this is a great forum (the SL as well as all other sections). Thank you for keeping this alive and at a great qualitative level !

second :

is it possible to set the EVF to b&w, whilst keeping focus peaking in color ?

is it possible to combine focus peakingf with magnification ?

The reason I ask for, is that I played with an SL and M lenses the other day in my Leica Store, and for my typical work (mainly portrait) I had trouble to see the focus peaking on the eyes. But, I only set the EVF to color and did not have it magnified. I also think that the peaking is very weak, and maybe having it in red, on a b&w screen would help.

thank you !

I would hardly call the peaking 'weak' ..... in fact with some good W/A lenses it is so strong it is a nuisance. You can also set the sensitivity in the menu options. I have mine set on 'low' and have no problems.

If you have the camera saving DNG+JPG you can set the JPG to monochrome ....... the live EVF image is then B&W but peaking and other overlays remain in colour.

Peaking is very dependent on lenses and conditions .... some of the older design lower contrast M lenses show it less obviously, particularly wide open. It does work with magnification and this often enhances peaking.

Dark, low contrast conditions can also cause some trouble ..... but I've always found it very usable.

To be honest, the EVF is so good you could manage portrait photography with the Noctilux and 75/2 manually, even without focus aids.

This is spot on. Indeed, I never use focus peaking for anything, always instead relying on the judgement by eye through the EVF (though I do use the maginifier to select the eye when focusing). I find focus peaking very distracting.
