Reeray Posted October 12, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm not sure this is the right forum so apologies in advance. I'm shooting a lot with a Zeiss M 25mm on my M240 and, as is obvious, I need the EVF to see all. Frankly, I hate using it and am considering purchasing the dedicated external VF. I shoot a lot of street grab shots and people doing their thing, and the lag from the EVF is annoying. I figure F8 and zone focusing will cover exposure, I just need to accommodate composition. Q. If anyone has used one, is there a distortion free view and is it optically good.? If it's relevant, I wear spectacles Thanks for any feedback Ray. Advertisement Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 Hi Reeray, Take a look here External VF advice. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Dan Bachmann Posted October 12, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 12, 2017 I use the Voigtlander 21/25mm finder (metal version) which works well for me. It is bright and has frame-lines for both 21mm and 25mm. I shoot a 21mm and can still see the lines easily with glasses. Dan Bachmann Posted October 12, 2017 Share #3 Posted October 12, 2017 Ps: there is a little distortion, but I don't think it would matter for street work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Peter H Posted October 12, 2017 Share #4 Posted October 12, 2017 (edited) You should be aware that Zeiss finders don't align with 100% accuracy to Leica cameras, but if you're comfortable with slightly loose framing they are a joy to use. I prefer them to all others. The EVF is useful for macro, focussing in some difficult situations with tricky lenses or when calibration is doubtful, and when framing accuracy is paramount, but all those things combined account for a very small proportion of my photography so a lovely bright Zeiss finder is my first choice. Sounds like it would be perfect for your style of photography. Edited October 12, 2017 by Peter H
Reeray Posted October 12, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted October 12, 2017 (edited) Thank you @Peter. Interesting to hear about the alignment issue which I hadn't considered. @Dan, how does the Voigtlander fare with alignment? DaveNC Posted October 13, 2017 Share #6 Posted October 13, 2017 I very much enjoy the big Leica finder. I use it with the WATE lens.
