Jim Kasson’s Lens Test

I received a Zeiss ZM 35mm C-Biogon from an EBay seller and noticed in normal shooting that it seemed quite weak on the left side. To test it I used a procedure outlined by Jim Kasson on his blog, which proved to be very effective at diagnosing and documenting the issue. Jim posted the results here:

Suggest you use this when you have a question about a lens. That one is enroute back to the (unhappy) seller.

Private seller, but was represented as “unused”. Cosmetics were good but I believe he bought it used from someone else and perhaps never used himself. I requested a copy of original purchase receipt to see if Zeiss would handle as warranty but he seemed unable to provide so had no recourse than to return.

 

My first EBay failure in a very long time...
