Containers....

When looking for an image in my former Fontenelle Collection's archives, I was struck by some photos of ancient "containers" : everything was refined at "that" time... Look, as examples, at these normal boxes for  a twin-range Summicron or for ELDIA's, or at this baquelite container for Elmar, and compare to what is available today.

I was definitely lucky to collect in the last century...or am I definitely an old remain myself?

Pierre, I like those older boxes, the lens bubbles and such also a lot, but I am not sure if the boxes etc. of today are of inferior quality. I haven't bought any new Leica things lately, so I can't compare. My newest boxes are of the M6TTL and an Elmarit-M 2.8/28mm...

Pierre, nice to see those.

I'm with Sandro, sophisticated new Leica are as nice or as "refined" with some items:

- my last one good surprise is the new released Summaron-M 5.6/28mm (I don't have photo, but easily be seen on line with little search)

- Leica M bodies come with really sophisticated box with "drawers" and flaps closed with small magnets and accessories in fabric pouches, etc.

- some "Limited" item like "Leica M Edition 60" is delivered with unique luxury container

Speaking about boxes, some of the nicest ones were the early plum coloured boxes from the late 20s and early 30s. Another nice one is a red box from the mid 1930s with compartments for holding FILCAs and metal containers which contains sections inside the lid for writing down the contents of the films it contained. I am travelling just now, but I will post some photos when I return home.

The 58mm Leitz UV filter (UVOOF) and red filter (UTOOV) for my LTM Summarex 85/f1.5 come in the same shade of grey and black boxes as the top image.

That was 'standard in the 60s, when I bought my stuff in 68 it was in boxes like that. Boxes for M3, 35 Summicron and 90 Elmarit should be in the loft. The other two lenses (50/2.8 and 135/4 Elmars) were bought second hand.
