Re-discovering an old Italian friend - and Leica collector

Nearly incredible : last week, I found by chance two UNPROCESSED Kodak rolls burned 35 years ago - I even didn't remember - when visiting my old friend Ghester Sartorius at his home in Sorrento, near Naples, in May, 1982. Ghester was a significant and well known Leica collector, and I was always anxious to get his comments and information.

After quite a difficult search, I selected a photo shop still equipped for a careful individual processing, and delivered my two rolls without much expectation...and not much encouraged by the technician. Well, the results were not perfect, but good enough to offer the possibility to let fellows Forum members know a Leica collection's pioneer and his place.

By the way, speaking of place, you will understand how my relationship with Ghester started if you look to the image of the plate wearing the name of the avenue where he lived, and compare it to the name of my own collection : Fontenelle (the place where I lived in Belgium).

Quite a few images of Ghester's collection were also "saved" and duly photoshopped, and I will offer same under Leica Collectors and Historica.

Very much enjoyed your film discovery of you friend Ghester Sartorius. Looking at that first photo I'm reminded of an old friend of mine Freddy Werner (had a shop in Bethesda MD)

Freddy took me on the journey from my Father's IIIf (w/50 summitar) to the M2, M3, M4's (had two black paint M4's from Freddy) and finally to my favorite M5's.

Hope we get the chance to see Ghester Sartorius's collection when you have the time to post again.
