No doubt she's used to being in front of cameras

It's that perfection which you always manage to achieve - even with such a casual "snap" every hair on her head is in absolute focus. As always, I am in awe of the quality of your images, but I am sure that the equipment has as much to do with perfection as the eye behind the lens. I have much to aspire to.

Jacques - Thank you.

Richard - Thank you but you are too kind.  For close to two years now I've been using the V-Lux 114 (a holiday gift from Barbara) and find it very versatile, and it permits me to travel lightly (we always travel with carry-on luggage only), bringing only a D-Lux 109 for back up and very occasional use.  So, the camera gear is a significant part of the equation. Probably tomorrow I'll post a pair of photos in this section made with the 109 - I knew I'd be in very low light and the f/1.7 lens came to the rescue.

That is interesting, Stuart, because I use a V-Lux1 but find it quite cumbersome to carry around so also have a C-Lux for spontaneous shots. In fact, with the V-Lux now 12 years old I have proved that captures onmy C are far superior to the V but there seems to be nothing which can be done to the V by way of upgrade.

My first version of V-Lux was the just pre- V-Lux 1, in Lumix version, which I took along with a D2 to India in 2005 and it performed quite well - that was my first all digital trip.  Before going to Antarctica in 2012 Leica was unable to return my R8/DMR and 80-200 zoom from service in time and loaned me a V-Lux 2, which was a big improvement over the Lumix (which I sent to a dear friend in France whose R9/DMR was stolen), but it still had some vexing issues for me.  I bought the V-Lux 4 which was better still in every way.  Then we get to Barbara buying a V-Lux 114 for me and it is an incredibly versatile camera which comes with me to work every day (consequently I have over 3,000 NYC photos on our site broken up into about 75 categories).  The D-Lux 109 is primarily a back-up to the V-Lux, but in Japan last October its very fast lens let me capture a candlelit religious ceremony which was just a bit too dark for the V-Lux to capture without blurring.
