HenrikP Posted September 27, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) What should I do? I am very happy for my M-E but it has ben sitting in Wetzlar in 3 weeks without it has come closer to a fix (sensor isue), the problem is apparently that because Leica has changed the guarantee, they have been inundated with M9 models, it has created a bottleneck at Leica. Now comes so my dilemma, I'm very happy for my M-E but now I am presented with the option to upgrade to a M262. I'm tempted, but it is so much better. What should I do, of course, 2,650 eur is also a kind of money. Keep the M~E or? Regards Henrik Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Advertisement Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Hi HenrikP, Take a look here M-E vs M262. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Rus Posted September 27, 2017 Share #2 Posted September 27, 2017 (edited) From what you've said I somehow feel that it is the long waiting time, rather than the difference between the two cameras, that seems to trouble you more So here is my question: Will an upgrade to 262 mean you will get your camera back sooner than if you stay with M-E? To get a real feel of the differences between the cameras and their impact on workflow, I do think the only way to decide is to search for RAW files online and process them yourself. Ko.Fe. Posted September 27, 2017 Share #3 Posted September 27, 2017 Don't know about Europe, but for this money where I'm, I could get slightly used M240 or next to new M-E, keep refurb M-E and be very happy twice.
Rus Posted September 27, 2017 Share #4 Posted September 27, 2017 Also, if you have been using the M-E and following the method of (when in low light situations) underexposing at ISO 640 max. and push in PP, then you will find that the 262 files do not respond to this method very well. But if you shoot the 262 in the usual way (i.e. aim for a balanced exposure every time) then you will enjoy the improved ISO performance of the 262 a bit more.

It is a little of both. Initially I was not presented with the possibility, for the upgrade. But now it hast come, I am a bit tempted. On the other hand after M10 has come out can see that the prices on the M240 has been reduced, and suddenly I'm not that sure the offer really is that good? So I'd say the offer doesn't look like a really good one, unless of course if you prefer a new camera over a used one.
wesphoto Posted March 31, 2019 Share #8 Posted March 31, 2019 I have both, the 262 and M9. If proper handled the M9 files are as good as the M262 at high iso, the M262 has more problems with banding what makes images over 3200 less good. The M9 files can be cranked up quit good, even toward 8000/10.000 iso eqivalent, if you don't mind a rougher file, the m262 needs a anti banding filter at that value. I bought the M262 for its high iso, and kept my M9 after I saw the difference. 1
