I'm not seeing much the often mentioned over-saturated M9 colours here. Not that I've ever seen them with my own photos. Is everyone using a lot of pp?

Not that familiar with the M9 so I've had a look today and to my eye these M9 colours mostly look distinctively bright, cheerful, intense and interesting -- I'd in fact seek to emulate these colours when I process my M-D (M262) DNGs but just turning up the saturation does not do it at all ... there must be some special sauce and I'd love to know what it is ... perhaps there is a CCD plugin?

If (...) my photo above is part of your observation then FWIW I haven't edited it all*, it looked like that upon LR import as a dng and I just exported it to jpg

*yes it would benefit from editing, but I decided to leave it as is

Yes it was :) along with others posted recently. I find the colours in your photo lean more towards a pastel palette than over saturated.

Maybe it’s a question of personal perception. Would you call them over saturated? Im just trying to understand why some people, quite a few of them, tend to find the colours unpleasantly saturated.

When you say people find the colours unpleasantly saturated do you mean on the m9?

If yes.. Then for me no I don't.

I think the key word is unpleasantly, if one simply jacks up saturation then imo it often looks unpleasant, but if a camera is natively bright and saturated it can look more believable

One thing I will say though...

Considering that the leica community more or less unanimously considers the m9 DNGs to have a wonderful look* and we like to say things about ccd magic and what have you...

...there's a lot of variation between the pictures posted from it

*for clarity put my name on that list

Yes, the M9. I mean.... I suppose all the photos in this thread are made with the M9 ;)

Maybe it's the wrong word but I have read more than once on this forum and others (summilux.net) that owners could not wait to get rid of their M9 due to awful over saturated output when the M240 came out. I've never seen it myself and only brought it up because again recent photos posted here, including yours, for me, render the colours beautifully.

Not to worry, there was a discussion in another thread recently which had a photo which very clearly displayed the so called "italian flag" issue. Some members could see it clear as day while others were adamant that there was nothing there... goes to show just how much our visual perception is anything but homogeneous.
