Exchange Place - Jersey City, NJ

I enjoy the exploration and the hunt; walking around places I've never been before...the unknown keeps me focused...

Agreed. It’s funny how a well-placed bicycle can contribute to a photograph. Wandering around with a camera certainly helps to make a person look and see more of the journey. And there’s always that hope that you might just get a picture you’re pleased with. When you set out, you’ve no clue what the picture might be, or even if you’ll get anything. Makes things more interesting.

Thank you all very kindly. Agree that shooting film on the streets is the hardest of all, because of the very low success rate. But when you have a piece of film containing something hard-won, that you’re pleased with, it’s also the most rewarding of all, better than just having a digital file.

Oddly I find I get way more keepers when I'm shooting film. You're just engaged on a different level.

As for film vs digital, you know you can make prints from digital files right?  ;)

But you're right, there's something magically about getting the image right on film, it's a nice validation of your abilities. I've definitely taken better pictures since this (below) but I couldn't tell you how amazing it felt to see this negative for the first time.

Beautiful - very much like a William Eggleston shot.

This one reminds me of the beginning of the '55 Robert Aldrich movie Kiss me deadly, from a Mickey Spillane novel.

This isn't really my genre but I've been lucky with a few scenes that I have been able to capture.  Both of these were in Lyon, France a few years back.

The first was taken while walking down a narrow street right at the moment that the bartender at this small cafe stepped out for some fresh air.

The second was taken at the train station.  My wife and I had just disembarked from a taxi when I noticed the couple in a taxi booth.

These were taken in York.

I saw the couple in the first photo while I was on the bridge.  I hurried down to try to time their emergence from under the arch and they just walked into my frame, as if I were shooting an ad.

The second is outside the York Cathedral.
