lambda.

The conundrum of ongoing chaos, the narrative interrupted in a noir proscenium. Lambda’s theatre. Words don’t work here, but the picture speaks. There is the poetry of conflict in this rooftop shadow play. Here, the puzzle of a visual vertigo. The guard rail, the sky, the truncated shadows on the wall help elucidate the men’s action. Still, the vein of ambiguity. The vignette within the dark vignette, or is it the dark vignette within the vignette? What is revealing about the play of these shadows? The cinéma vérité of the slipping horizon. Dark textures, textures of the dark. Documentation. Is it a sky or a backdrop? The way you prospect the visual experience with an ice pick for subtext. Passports stamped at the border; no speaking, only blinking. Gerhard Richter says about his work that “the paintings do what they want. I planned something totally different.“

Photography is another way of thinking. It doesn’t have to do with words, even though there are photographs with words that curiously have less to do with the words and more to do with irony. However, in Lambda’s theatre, a fair question might be at what point in the photograph do you meet yourself? What is at risk?
