angeche Posted September 23, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 23, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there, I have bought a Leica TL2 this week. When shooting with the 23mm Leica T lens in manual mode I have both magnified focus and peak focusing. But when shooting with my Leica R lens and a third party adapter I have neither peak focusing nor magnified focus, thus rendering the camera useless with R lens. Am I doing something wrong? angeche Posted September 23, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted September 23, 2017 It is definitely a funny camera! I have attached my 23 mm T lens, program the left dial to focus mode (in Shutter priority), change the lens and voila! I have both 3x and 6x focusing through the left dial in my legacy lens. No peak focus yet though....
floyd Posted September 23, 2017 Share #3 Posted September 23, 2017 I've found some of the adapters to be the problem, especially with ROM and non ROM lenses, the problem is the Leica adapter is very expensive.
tritentrue Posted September 23, 2017 Share #4 Posted September 23, 2017 There's a menu option to choose whether you want magnification, peaking, both, or neither. And you can assign magnification to the left dial. R telephotos are my most-used lenses on the TL2, and I am well satisfied with the results I get using the TL2's focus aids. Do you have peak focusing? From the beginning I have selected peak focusing and magnification in the menu but there is no peak focusing... And yes, assigning magnification to the left dial was how I managed to have magnification...

And yes, assigning magnification to the left dial was how I managed to have magnification... I can see focus peaking highlights at the 3x level of magnification, barely visible on some edges at 6x. On the TL2 I rely on magnification, usually at 6x; whereas I use only the unmagnified shimmer on the T.
floyd Posted September 24, 2017 Share #7 Posted September 24, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Peaking only works on areas of fairly high contrast, depending on the scene, as you increase magnification the contrast disappears. I've been comparing the Olympus and Sony and even with there phase detect systems the more you zoom in manual focus the less if any peaking appears. LocalHero1953 Posted September 24, 2017 Share #8 Posted September 24, 2017 I prefer not to use focus peaking, but I found that it was very weak on the TL2 compared to the SL. It's a tricky balance (if it's too strong, it's unhelpful), so I hope future f/w allows you to customise its strength.
angeche Posted September 24, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted September 24, 2017 Ok, guys, very helpful! I can assume that most probably the camera is OK.... But I cannot detect the peak focusing at high magnifications...
jesmen Posted October 27, 2018 Share #10 Posted October 27, 2018 (edited) How do you assign the magnification to the left dial? My TL2 magnification not working at all even with Leica T - M adapter ... Edited October 27, 2018 by jesmen
