Delighted with Agfa Precisa CT 100 reversal film

I recently bought some Agfa Precisa CT100 colour reversal film, not out of any particular desire to use this but just because French suppliers seemed to have run out of Fuji Provia 100F. My researches lead me to believe that the bulk film stock for the Agfa film is made for them by Fuji and is a similar emulsion to Provia 100F. 

 

My first 6 rolls that I took at a family event 3 weeks ago just came back from a new processors I was trying, Photon Pro in Toulouse. The previous people I have used in Lyon did a good job but were deteriorating from rather slow to glacial. Photo took a week and a half but over half that was due to the appalling service French La Poste give now, with even regular first class mail small packets taking three to five working days to reach a domestic address. The processed films were posted back to me from Toulouse on Monday.

 

I am delighted with the results. The dynamic range and very fine grain are similar to Provia but I would say the rendition is noticeably warmer, with the greens and blues, normally so evident in Provia, more balanced with the reds, oranges and pinks. Now I took all the outside shots with my newly acquired 1999 Special Edition LTM 50 Summilux Type III and M7. I have noticed when using this lens on my M240, that its rendition is a little warmer than for example my 0.95 Noctilux or 35 ASPH Summicron but not hugely. The substrate of the Precisa has a very pale brown tint, which may be reason for the warming.

 

I was a bit annoyed today, when I heard that Ektachrome has been delayed to next year but now that I have found Precisa, it does not worry me that much. I was never a big fan of the slightly cool Provia rendition. I will try and fire up my Plustek 7400 scanner and post some images but when I tried it a few days ago, it was not playing ball with High Sierra OS 10.13.B9. I fear their USB driver may be 32 bit and I may need to wait on an update of the driver to 64 bit.

Apparently I can use Vuescan (which I have) and this side-steps Plustek's own driver, to allow 64 bit access to the scanner. I will try that tomorrow. Ed Hamrick makes a sarcastic comment on the Vuescan website about Plustek selling expensive upgrades to Silverfast but failing to update their drivers for new operating systems.

I have  ben   using it   for a  while  and  it is  really  good . As   said  above it  is perhaps   a  bit  warmer  than  Provia  100.

It  was  recommended   to me  by my  processor  , here  in the  UK . 

 

A  400 ASA    version  would be  good .

Here are a couple of examples with my Plustek 7400, which I got to fire up with Vuescan. No particular artistic merit as it was a family event but they show the dynamic range, colour balance and warmth compared with the cool looking Provia, albeit a bit soft as the film register accuracy on my Plustek is not great.
