tobey bilek Posted September 23, 2017 Share #4 Posted September 23, 2017 The original paintings are better, but not as easily seen. The Art Institute of Chicago hosted a special exhibit of Dutch masters a few decades back. Wow. Never miss the opportunity to view them in person .
LocalHero1953 Posted September 23, 2017 Share #5 Posted September 23, 2017 I can't read what he is saying, but I think every photographer of people would benefit from studying Dutch painters for composition, use of light, and how to break rules. I visited the Rijksmuseum for the Late Rembrandt exhibition a couple of years ago, and was bowled over not just by those shown on this website, but also by Rembrandt's Syndics of the Drapers' Guild and Portrait of Margaretha de Geer - how he showed hands, and how he represented old people (including his many selfies). On my way back, I stopped off in Bruges and took a set of photos of bicycles, not people, while still under the influence of Vermeer's Little Street . I must go back soon - an easy train ride from Cambridge via my daughter in Brussels.
