some decades ago we were as German studens taking pictures with long teles in Portsmouth harbour.  Great Britain was a belligerent nation at this time, having war with Argentina about the Falkland islands. So in about five minutes of time there was a lady in Bobby-uniform asking  nicely what we were doing here, polite questioning for our passports and we had some nice words with each other.

With no doubt she saw we were no secret agents.

I never had such a kind contact with a police delegate before and ever since; as a German I envy Britains for their Police.

Perhaps things did change in the last terrorist affected years, but I'll remember always positive of this....
