BigBabyEarl Posted September 7, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anybody have any notes? I've heard from "reputable sources" that it is coming, but nobody knows when. Also, it seems like there will be a solid upgrade program for the 007, no word on 006 (although that would seem illogical). It's really a confusing proposition to upgrade now to a 007 with this 008 lurking in the shadows (very slow moving shadows at that). Leica has to be doing it soon with virtually every other camera either upgraded or in cycle like the SL. The general shame of having a 50mp Fuji for $6500 should be enough one would guess. Advertisement Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Hi BigBabyEarl, Take a look here S 008. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
erlingmm Posted September 7, 2017 Share #2 Posted September 7, 2017 My speculation: No new S008 until Photokina 2018. 50+ mpix, but not 80 or 100. S007 is still a great camera.
djmay Posted September 7, 2017 Share #3 Posted September 7, 2017 You would not be wrong to expect an announcement soon. Whether that means weeks or months, I do not know. Then all the speculation can end. Speculation can be fun sometimes Jesse Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
darylgo Posted September 7, 2017 Share #4 Posted September 7, 2017 (edited) The rumors I hear around the LA area is the camera is in the hands of testers and it's very impressive. The new sensor is 60-70mp and this next part is crazy, the 007 sensor can be replaced with the new sensor. The people that provided the info are honest and reliable, I would not hesitate to trust them with any Leica information on existing products but rumors have no reliability just as verbal information can change when passed along. rickgrainger Posted September 7, 2017 Share #10 Posted September 7, 2017 Another interesting possibility would be an updated S-E (Type 007 this time). No video at all. Just the essentials for still photography capture. Just an idea.
Photon42 Posted September 10, 2017 Share #11 Posted September 10, 2017 It has to be called S3 . Hopefully they do not copy the (in my eyes ugly) aesthetics of the SL shell. But then, I'd rather hope the Bond edition goes down in price an becomes accessible for me at some point.
helged Posted September 11, 2017 Share #12 Posted September 11, 2017 If/when Leica manages to put the TL2 sensor - or something similar - into the S, the next S, with the (already) outstanding S-lenses, will really sing. Based on the TL2, the system will work fine at ISO6400, and be usable at ISO12800.

helged Posted September 11, 2017 Share #14 Posted September 11, 2017 Does the TL2 sensor mean a Sony sensor in 2x3 format? With TL2-sensor I mean the sensor that the new Leica TL2 uses (APS-C sized CMOS sensor, 23.6mmx15.7mm size, 24 mp). For low-light characteristics, see this TL2-thread with examples. mgrayson3 Posted September 11, 2017 Share #15 Posted September 11, 2017 Hmm. That would scale up to ~87mp at 45x30mm.....

relms Posted September 19, 2017 Share #17 Posted September 19, 2017 I am happy to have all the S008 rumors floating about, because I just got an incredible deal on an S007 (my second one) with <100 actuations. Am I likely to buy the next S? Most certainly since I have owned each iteration - but at this moment I have an incredible camera, built like a tank, that consistently takes beautiful photographs with a wide range of the best lenses available, that feels right in my hands. Instead of sitting on the sidelines waiting for the next best thing, I will be taking pictures and enjoying this camera with little concern about when, or if, Leica announces a new S.
LocalHero1953 Posted September 19, 2017 Share #18 Posted September 19, 2017 The problem for Leica is that they still use a SLR form while all the medium format action is mirrorless. Does Leica continue with a mirror box, or back out of the cul-de-sac and make money selling adapters for old S lenses to a new mirrorless body? djmay Posted September 19, 2017 Share #19 Posted September 19, 2017 What is wrong with SLR? Some people prefer the user experience. The cost to manufacture is probably higher and that is a tradeoff for those who prefer the experience. Jesse Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Certainly, some people prefer the SLR, but I think the market is shifting towards mirrorless - Leica can't ignore it.
