Advertisement Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Hi thedirektor, Take a look here M262 baseplate dropped - not being recognised. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pedaes Posted September 3, 2017 Share #2 Posted September 3, 2017 (edited) There is a small magnet in baseplate of M240 which I guess may also be there in M262. Did this get dislodged in falll? Seems most likely thing to check first. Magnet is about 3mm dia. Edited September 3, 2017 by pedaes
a.noctilux Posted September 3, 2017 Share #3 Posted September 3, 2017 I've checked, the baseplate is the same 262/240. So look at the baseplate for a small bright round magnet if it is there.

thedirektor Posted September 3, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted September 3, 2017 THANK YOU !! All 3 of you. Saved my holiday pics. Swept the floor very carefully. Nothing. Was about to give up when my wife (Genius !!) said Hang on it's a magnet. It sticks to metal . And she looked down at the base of the metal Chair right by here....and there it was. This forum , the members, the whole leica family is a wonderful thing Grazie from Italy. Indra

pedaes Posted September 3, 2017 Share #7 Posted September 3, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good result! These magnets are only a few pence for ten on e-bay, and IMHO all M digital users should have a spare in the bag. Hope you both have a great holiday.

When as a guy, I look "over" things, my wife looks "under/inside" things and find what I'm searching for.

thedirektor Posted September 4, 2017 Author Share #13 Posted September 4, 2017 One last question to you oracles. How is the tiny magnet secured in place ? I think it must have been glued because now it is coming loose and jumping all over the place when I open the baseplate! Thanks as ever. a.noctilux Posted September 4, 2017 Share #14 Posted September 4, 2017 My thinking it's glued (my Ms never have it dancing around).
Luke_Miller Posted September 4, 2017 Share #15 Posted September 4, 2017 My RRS Arca-Swiss baseplate uses an adhesive magnetic material like a refrigerator magnet. If the magnet fell out of my Leica baseplate I think I would try to source similar material.

jaapv Posted September 4, 2017 Share #18 Posted September 4, 2017 Lost one myself once. Some misguided person had given me utterly tasteless statuettes of "Kissing Cats", using the same small magnets. Smashed the things and gained two magnets Superglued one in place and I keep one in my camera bag.
DaveNC Posted September 5, 2017 Share #19 Posted September 5, 2017 I don't have my MD with me to look, but I'm wondering if it might makes sense to glue the magnet to the camera instead of the baseplate. I don't see the necessity to halt picture-taking without the baseplate.
