Peoplewing Posted August 30, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) The top plate of my black M240 has gotten some ugly scatches. The camera works properly, but nevertheless I'm thinking to send it to Wetzlar for having the top plate changed. Could anyone here give me an idea what the cost for this would be, arround...? Thanks! Advertisement Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Hi Peoplewing, Take a look here Top plate: how much?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted August 30, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 30, 2017 Leica can tell you, I'm sure. If I were to hazard a guess I would say in the order of 800-1000 Euro. Leica had an upgrade scheme running, but I do not know whether it is still in place.

Exodies Posted August 30, 2017 Share #5 Posted August 30, 2017 Learn to love scratches. I have mine; my fingers know them intimately.
Peoplewing Posted August 30, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted August 30, 2017 Thanks very much for your answers. 1000 Euro are quite a lot of money. And new scatches will follow in my way to use the Leica. So I decided to handle it like "Exodies" and try to beginn to like them... Thanks all of you!

steamboat Posted September 1, 2017 Share #9 Posted September 1, 2017 Your camera is just starting to get broken in. Look at Jim Marshall's old Leica film cameras. Those were used cameras. OTH, the new Jim Marshall 2017 Monochrom special set is a horror in my opinion. I can't imagine Jim (if he were alive) approving that camera. Really (I hate to say it) the Lenny Kravitz "Reporter" model of the M-P typ 240 got it about right.
sblutter Posted September 5, 2017 Share #10 Posted September 5, 2017 I'd throw the camera away and get a new one. Your pictures will surely greatly improve. Similarly, one should only ever use a brand new hammer.
pgk Posted September 5, 2017 Share #11 Posted September 5, 2017 I was quoted around €700 for a replacement top plate for an M9 (dents & scratches). As it has no effect on function I promptly forgot about the idea (I'd guess the camera might just be worth about €700 more with a new top plate, so I see little point). jevidon Posted September 25, 2017 Share #12 Posted September 25, 2017 For that kind of money, I suggest that you shop around for camera refinishers. I think that some of them can do a lovely job of doing a black enamel that will probably be a lot more stunning than the factory dull black finish. I would think that for the same or less money, you can get the top and baseplate done so they'll match. Here is a Japanese site, but I expect there are several others if you look around. http://www.japancamerahunter.com/2013/11/fantastic-repainted-cameras/

dante Posted October 29, 2017 Share #19 Posted October 29, 2017 Like a new car's paintwork. True that. There was an old expression that Persian rugs had at least one error in each example because God disliked humans' trying to make earthly things perfect. So you need to leave one scratch on your car, or your camera. Because if you don't, the universe will correct the situation and give you a door dent or impact damage to your Leica. Also, there are considerably fewer "cooties" when you do the damage yourself. D
Exodies Posted October 29, 2017 Share #20 Posted October 29, 2017 A friend of a friend used to scratch his new cars. People are daft.
