Maxx71 Posted August 27, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) A friend's eyecup is missing and don't know how it came off. Is this replaceable and where can he get the part? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Advertisement Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 Hi Maxx71, Take a look here Missing Eyecup. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jdlaing Posted August 28, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 28, 2017 http://www.dagcamera.com/store/c2/Leica.html Send him an email or call him. If he doesn't have one he may know where to get one.
sdw Posted August 28, 2017 Share #3 Posted August 28, 2017 (edited) Happened to me as well. Never happened to any of my prior M's. Screw the DAG recommendation, I am taking it to Leica. Edited August 28, 2017 by sdw
Maxx71 Posted August 28, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted August 28, 2017 Happened to me as well. Never happened to any of my prior M's. Screw the DAG recommendation, I am taking it to Leica. That sucks. If you're able to just order the part and install yourself, let us know! It looks like it can be screwed in. Sending it to Leica would be a hassle. Simon Posted August 28, 2017 Share #6 Posted August 28, 2017 (edited) Like the other case where this happened, I see lots of fluff and dust collecting around the VF. Is this happening since losing the ring? Doesn’t look good at all. Surely it’s not hard to design a rubber ring that the VF can screw onto and create a secure seal that won’t come off. Apart from being bigger, are there any other changes to the design of the M10 VF that might cause this? Edited August 28, 2017 by Simon

Dust is everywhere and will collect where there's a surface to land--not caused by missing ring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jonoslack Posted August 28, 2017 Share #8 Posted August 28, 2017 Happened to me as well - keep forgetting to ask for a replacement, but it's not a big deal
Photon42 Posted August 28, 2017 Share #9 Posted August 28, 2017 Happened to me as well - plus a frame line selector screw falling off at some point.
feelssadman Posted February 21, 2018 Share #10 Posted February 21, 2018 Happened to me as well today. Will talk to the dealer soon, maybe they'll take care of it. I don't know if its worth it sending it to Leica and having no M for at least a few weeks.
lucerne Posted February 21, 2018 Share #11 Posted February 21, 2018 (edited) Happened to me as well - keep forgetting to ask for a replacement, but it's not a big deal It would be a "big deal" if the owner had £150 of diopter screwed into the eyepiece.! But how is it designed to be secure. Glue? OR Has a fixitant been missed out during assembly. Bearing that possibility in mind, I'm going to be checking my eyepiece and accessories regularly. lucerne Posted February 21, 2018 Share #12 Posted February 21, 2018 no obvious thread in the pic thoughLooking more closely at the OP's image, I think I can see an internal thread. I've already experienced a diopter with its M9 to M10 adaptor simply unscrewing and falling out. It landed in the sand on a beach in India. Fortunately I heard it land. We may be seeing a design oversight. Thread too shallow.
feelssadman Posted February 22, 2018 Share #13 Posted February 22, 2018 (edited) But how is it designed to be secure. Glue? OR Has a fixitant been missed out during assembly. An assistant at Leica Customer Care told me that 3-4 drops of clear nail polish are sufficient to secure it. It should be safer as the diopter screws in and makes things more secure
fatihayoglu Posted August 10, 2018 Share #16 Posted August 10, 2018 I have lost mine as well. To be honest, this should have happened to £6k worth of camera, first ISO wheel now this. Do you guys know how to get a new one or should I send it over to Leica?
feelssadman Posted August 13, 2018 Share #17 Posted August 13, 2018 Don't send it over to Leica. Just ask your Leica dealer or the official support and chances are that you'll get at least one piece for free.
oltimer Posted August 14, 2018 Share #18 Posted August 14, 2018 Happened to me too a couple of weeks ago. Called Leica NJ and got one in the mail a few days later, no charge. The recommendation was to add a drop of super glue.
schattenundlicht Posted August 14, 2018 Share #19 Posted August 14, 2018 Why couldn‘t they do that in the factory, or design a properly catching thread in the first place? Although in itself an insignificant „problem“ I think it is hilarious that the official representative has to give such DIY advice with regard to a brand new 6k camera. In case the camera ever needs further repair, Leica Wetzlar may tell you that warranty is void because of unapproved chemical‘s residue interfering with disassembly
fatihayoglu Posted August 14, 2018 Share #20 Posted August 14, 2018 I got a free eyecup as well with the advice of small drop of super glue, which I didn’t apply as I am bit scared with that. It is a nasty thing, and melts the area it drops. What I am annoyed is, why this hasn’t been done at factory, but hey nothing is perfect
