I hope Lyon can hold up to such expectations. It's been known to rain, occasionally  :o

Well if that is the case its possible to take a hotel in Marseille and take the TGV in the morning for Lyon :-)

I wonder what the rules say?

Sign up for the 1 Challenge at noon in the Lyon restaurant. Take the 1235 TGV, Lyons to Marseilles and return on the 1714 in time for the dinner at 1930? Problem solved to choose between Lyon or Marseilles.

Rules is rules.

Nothing to say that you can’t get a fast train to another city and shoot there.

Sort of defeats the “challengy” bit of the whole thing though.

Whatever floats your boat. (In Marseille harbour, of course)

If we implemented digital sign on, I could text 'on' from home, shoot something in the back yard and save on the expensive air fair and ....... oh, I don't fancy a digital dinner though.

Back to the drawing board.

I've been to Lyon lots and have never seen rain - I'm from Manchester, so I notice that kind of thing <grin>.

Just checked the weather forecast and it's due to rain in Lyon over the weekend. Apart from that the temperature will be in the low to mid 20s.

Finally Dagmar and I are back in Hamburg after enjoying 7 days in Rome. Many thanks to Andy for organizing the One Challenge meetup once again. Now we've the rather difficult task to chose a photo as our contribution for the challenge itself.

Looking forward to participate in Lyon's challenge 2018.

... more importantly you would also be relieved of our company ...   ;)

I was trying to avoid a train change, and also avoid passing through Paris. However it looks as though I'll have to change trains in Lille.

Just been looking here.

There are 5 direct trains per week, leaving just after 7 and arriving at 1pm. That looks like a good plan to me, and specially given the whole afternoon wasted waiting at FCO to come home today.

It is a decision I take quite often recently.

Just as an example, I want to go to Munich.

So I either have half an hour taxi ride to the airport, two hours left for dropping the bag (if any) go through security, and having a rather good breakfast as Mövenpick, fly to Munich for about an hour, take the local train to Munich main station for an additional hour and take the subway to my sister for half an hour.

Or I have a ten minutes taxi ride to Dammtor train station, have twenty minutes to buy a decent coffee, a newspaper and to check what the bakery has on display, about five hours in the train, where I have space to work with my computer* and from Munich main station the same 30 mins.

So the flight is still slightly faster, but the train ride more comfortable and productive. One day, Deutsche Bahn will learn how to be on time and how to brew a decent coffee and then I will have to find other topics to complain about :)

* Actually trains and cafés are excellent places to work, I can live with a busy situation around me, if it does not affect me

Back on topic, Lyon can be done with changing trains once.

Having 9 mins to change trains is quite a risk with Deusche Bahn, though.

Does anyone have experience with the coffee on a TGV?
