Robert M Poole Posted August 20, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 20, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Another portrait from my trip to Skiathos. I spotted this chap sitting inside the church. I took a couple of candids at first and they were awful, over exposed by the door light, under exposed in the shadows. Then he asked to see the shots which I explained hadn't worked out. He seemed willing so I took the opportunity to direct him a little and got this. www.robertpoolephotography.com

Michael Hiles Posted August 20, 2017 Share #5 Posted August 20, 2017 Another portrait from my trip to Skiathos. I spotted this chap sitting inside the church. He seemed willing so I took the opportunity to direct him a little and got this. www.robertpoolephotography.com Very nice photograph. I think that "candid portrait" is often a contradiction. Not always but often and mostly. Portraits seem to me to be a collaboration. The photographee knows what is going on and is usually cooperative. Or at least not uncooperative. Please sit here in the window light, please look into and through the lens. Please remove the spinach from your teeth. This picture is a good example - the picture is the result of planning and organizing. This is not to undervalue candid pictures - of course not. And maybe my point is only semantic re:"Portrait". But in my experience, the most successful portraits are intentional and a shared experience.

XVarior Posted August 22, 2017 Share #9 Posted August 22, 2017 Beautiful portrait and story behind it. Don't be afraid from asking. As Michael said above, good portrait is a collaboration. Gray job. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What a super shot that first one is - much enjoyed. Thank you! THIS is really a great picture ! On the LCD it looked like a write off but I'm glad I was able to recover it slightly in Lightroom
